Just showed up at my second school to find out the students are on a school trip till Friday. Looks like I'll be watching funny cat videos on yotube for the rest of the week.

You just found out? Didn't you get a copy of the school's schedule for this year? Hie to the administration office and ask for the 학사일정 및 수업시수 확보 연간 계획 (Hak-sk-il-jeong mit su-eop-shi-su hwak-bo yeon-gan gye-hwaek/Annual Academic Calendar and Class Planning Days).

I did have an inkling but I thought it was tomorrow and only for one day. I need to get on the calendar situation. I have a new co-teach and we only see each other once a day, as she is in another office and we don't teach together.

I know a fair number of foreign teachers wouldn't even dream of this; however, I find it informative and it makes my work life less hectic: attend the Monday staff meetings. One of the agenda sheets is the weekly plan with any changes for the major events. Also on that sheet is the dates/times teachers or other staff will be gone and for what purpose.

Since you're working at two schools, each school should've appointed a co-teacher to be your liaison ("handler") at that school. Each handler should give you the calendar and any agenda sheets for their school.

Another thing that will keep "scheduling surprises" down is checking the class schedule board in the main office. Take your day's schedule with you and compare it to the board. If you're supposed to have, say, Class 3-2 for 1st period and there's nothign written in that box, then the schedule is unchanged. If there's something written there, then that class has a different subject that period. Look at the rest of the hours for that class and you'll see 영 (Yeong/English) in another hour's block. That's the time you'll be teaching that class just for that day. If there's a circle around the subject, then that means the subjects are switched between different days and not just the hours.

Thanks for the tips. This is my third year at the same school, so I know the ropes pretty well.

I wasn't really complaining about being left in the dark, as it was half my fault. Though, there is good advice on this thread if you are n00b.

This thread was more an excuse to post cats in the general forum than anything else.

Just had a cool moment. The dude in charge just said I could go home early and come in late tomorrow The cool thing was he translated it on the computer and relayed it to me himself. Even though a K-English teacher was sitting two desks away.

Life could be worse sometimes.
