What a disgusting Web site this is.

Given you're constantly whining about this web site and the people on it, why on Earth do you keep coming back to it? Are you really so pathetic that you have nothing better to do with your time than constantly subject yourself to an environment you actively despise? Do you really have no more urgent a task than trolling through threads whose topics anger you, sharing your opinion about who or who shouldn't be banned and why?

None of us are begging you to be here; no one is beseeching you to share your insights. The last thing we need is moderators further stifling free discussion here, so why not save yourself the irritation and cease your visits to the Current Events Forum?

Sorry you feel that way. I doubt I'm the only person who found Bigverne's comment offensive, and I doubt I'm the only person who dislikes this site. Given that it's supposed to be a helpful resource for foreigners in Korea, why doesn't Dave Sperling ever post here to explain his decisions?

It is a helpful resource for foreigners. It just so happens that this particular section is helpful for foreigners who are interested in engaging in frank discussion on current world issues, a type of discussion it can be difficult to have with Korean co-workers. Insisting people be censured for voicing their opinions regarding current events, on the Current Events Forum, is ridiculous.

Again, though, if you dislike the site, why keep coming here? Especially to the Current Events and Off Topic Forums, which are by far the portion of the site most likely to enrage you? Why expose yourself to something you hate?

For every "whine" I post here, I think I must roll my eyes silently at least 100 times. I know I'm not the only one who thinks the level of discussion at Dave's could use improvement, and I know I'm not the only one here who's expressed objections to the persistent harassment and bullying. Look at your post to me: "None of us are begging you to be here; no one is beseeching you to share your insights." Why is it that the bullies get to decide whose opinions are welcome here? I'm not against people discussing current events, but Dave Sperling apparently has no sense of judgment about what sorts of comments are helpful and productive ... that is, if he's actually reading all this.

Suppose this board has Muslim members? Are their opinions welcome? Do you think this board will ever attract anything other than lowlifes if the mods continue their "freedom of speech for bullies" policy?

I don't know about active Muslim members but I know there have been some in the past, at least.

Of course, and I hope they would respect the fact that sometimes other people may disagree with their views.

Again, then why keep coming back? You post critically regarding the forum and its denizens very frequently, so if you really roll your eyes in silent exasparation even a dozen times -- much less a hundred -- for every such post, you clearly truly hate this forum. Why come here? Why expose yourself to it?

As far as I'm concerned, everyone's opinions are welcome here. I'm just genuinely perplexed that you, despite hating it here, keep coming back, exposing yourself to it, getting angry, and then whine about it. Why not just stop coming?

You asked why "the bullies" get to decide whose opinions are welcome here, but then you attack the site owner's sense of judgement about which opinions should or should not be welcome. To be frank, your behavior seems far more like that of an internet bully than anyone else's. Constantly insulting people. Constantly insisting people should be banned for violating your personal standards of discussion decorum. The rest of us, for the most part, simply want to chat and debate about issues we find interesting.

Sure, but so should be the opinions of those who disagree with them.

If I had to choose between people like bigverne (who you classify as lowlifes), and people like you, I'll pick people like bigverne, because whether I agree with him or not, he's not trying to shut up dissenters. Fortunately, it seems the moderators here feel the same way.

Again, if you don't like it, why stay? Why subject yourself to something you hate so much? Save yourself the aggravation, unless you really have such a pathetic life that the best thing you can find to do with your time is chat with people you hate, on a web site you hate?

I only recall one, and I think he was probably a troll ... anyway, the point is that making the site a free-for-all where people can bash various groups only discourages real discussion and deters serious people from joining/posting.

Please explain to me the logic of someone moving to a culture they clearly despise. The only thing 'offensive' here is this woman's behaviour and her refusal to observe even the most basic cultural norms of the country she has moved to voluntarily. If not offensive, its at least extremely bad manners.

If she cannot adapt, she can simply buy a plane ticket and utilize her freedom of movement to go to a country that would best suit the extremist nonsense that her interpretation of Islam demands. I would suggest Waziristan. Of course, they don't have much of a welfare state over there, hence the reason why this lady and so many of her arrogant and demanding co-religionists choose to move to the land of the Kuffar.

1. If this was my site, I wouldn't tolerate your comments. This is bullying. This sets the discussion back and prevents others from participating. Allowing this type of post basically sends the message that Muslim posters aren't welcome, and neither is anyone else who wants to discuss issues rationally.

2. It is none of your business, or mine, why the woman moved to Canada. She could have had a million reasons. The only thing that matters is that she lives in Canada and wants to get an education there while also living in accordance with her values. It's hard to believe the school couldn't address her concerns.

There is only one person hear who does not want to discuss this rationally and that's the guy whining like a 10 year old about 'bullying' and saying that certain posters should be banned because they might hurt someone's precious feelings.

By the way, suggesting that someone leaves a country if they do not like the culture is perfectly reasonable and rational.

Why is it always that host countries must adapt to the whims of culturally imperialist Muslims? Where is the need for her to adjust?

Would you go to an Italian friends wedding and say "Whats this pasta crap? I want a taco."
Would you go into a Korean friend's home and refuse to remove your shoes?
Are you equally outraged that Saudi Arabia, if they actually let Christians live there, would do nothing to accomodate its non Muslim population?

Good questions all, Conrad. In the same vein, would a Klingon convention (Saudi?) allow me to enter in amongst them while I'm wearing my Darth Vadar outfit?

What if I was dressed as Scotty or a Tribble?

(I'm not a Trekky-dork, but the first series was still pretty bomb.)

Bramble is a guy? Not to get sexist or anything (god forbid), but I always read the person's posts as coming from the female perspective.

You read it right. I named myself after a *female* vegan border collie who lived to be 26. (I didn't like the messages I got when I had a more gender-neutral nickname.)
