My class have been asking for a song for a while now, so I was wondering if you have any tips on a decent song to use for an advanced (FCE level) class?
British bands are a bonus... |

Hi there,
How about Lemon Tree Song by Fools Garden? There's a video of this tune at www.youtube.com that has Hangeul subtext. My co-teacher uses this tune, and it seems to work well in a mixed class that has Upper-Beginner to Mid-Intermediate level pupils. |

Last semester I started every class off with a song... for lower classes I gave them a gap sheet to listen and fill in lyrics and for advanced classes they just listened. Off the top of my head, these are the ones I can remember:
Weezer - Island in the Sun
Kanye West - Amazing
Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree
Jill Scott - Golden
R. Kelly - World's Greatest
Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
Chicago Soundtrack - They both reached for the Gun
Singin in the Rain Soundtrack - I probably used all of those songs at some point
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
Human League - Don't You Want Me
Owl City - Fireflies
Dido - Thank You
It's oh so Quiet - Bjork (or other versions)
...and a ton more but I can't think of them off the top of my head. I love love looooove using songs with college-age classes because they remember the vocab and expressions easily. Hope some of these are helpful... |

Ive just been making gapfills too. They love them though, I bet your class loved your classes if for nothing else than they get to learn a new song.
Ive used a few, my most successful so far is Where the Wild Roses Grow by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue, as for two verses it's romantic and then he kills her! |
