Quick question: are E-2 visas only issued for a maximum of 12 months, or is it for however long the contract stipulates? I couldn't find an answer on the E-2 sticky, nor could I find anything on my local Korean Consulate's webpage.

I'm in talks with a school right now, and start/end dates are the only issue remaining to be resolved before I sign the contract. I thought it would be 5.1.2010 - 5.1.2011 (a standard 12 month contract), but now they are talking about 12.31.2011. It's a good school, but I get the impression that they don't hire a lot of foreigners...maybe they aren't familiar with visa regulations?

An E2 can only be granted for periods of a MAXIMUM of 1 year.
They can be extended any number of times at 1 year intervals for 1 year duration.

You can contract for as long as you want but your visa runs in 1 year cycles and needs to be extended to complete a longer contract.
