the headphone jack on my itouch recently started going wonky...i'm pretty sure its just a short in one of the channels when the plug is turned a certain way.

its a first gen and far out of warranty. has anyone gone about getting a headphone jack fixed? how much was it? i was planning on selling it as i just picked up an iphone...is there a market for slightly used, slightly broken itouches?

I know people hate it when tech support people ask "stupid questions" but it could be a problem with your headphones rather than your headphone jack. Have you tried it with a different pair of headphones?

not a stupid question...i've tried a few different sets of headphones and a pair of speakers, all with bad sound. it's the headphone jack.

The head phone jack on my first gen touch completely died. I took it back to the store and it just sneaked in by about 2 weeks on the warranty. Take it back to the store and see what they say. It's obviously a known issue so they might just fix it for free. You never know.

Crack it open and have someone at Yongsan resolder the connections?
(If it's broken anyway it's worth a shot ne? lol...)

I had the same thing happen on my first gen ipod touch. I opened it up and tried re-soldering the connections unsuccessfully. I think you can actually buy a completely new headphone jack assembly on ebay for very cheap. Then you just take out the old one and pop on the new one. I damaged mine too much, so i just bought a new ipod touch. Definitely a good choice to upgrade...so much better now.

I wouldn't recommend letting someone try to fix the problem unless they have experience on the product!

What's an "itouch"?

Is it in any way similar to an iPOD Touch?
