what's the deal on dentists in south korea. I've read mixed tales of good and bad. I need general work done, re-doing old fillings, caps maybe...a pull or two, that's about it. Any ideas on the costs or cleanliness of the offices?

anyone visited a good dentist in Kwangju?

Well, I know the costs here are much lower than in Canada, but I think the cleanliness varies from one office to another. I can't speak for ones in Gwangju, but you might try asking Wylde, Katydid, Rudyflyer, Kwangju Chicken or the Lemon. I believe all of them are or were in Gwang ju recently.

I had a wisdom tooth (go figure) pulled about 3 weeks ago.

I had 3 shots of novocane, x-rays, and the pull for a whopping 20,000won.

The seats were older, but the dentists and assistants were professional IMO.

When I was home last I was quoted pver 300$ CDN for the same service.

Stunted Wookie, damn that's cheap.
I had all four wisdom teeth pulled (at the same time - what was I thinking!) and it set me back about a grand back home.
Also looking for a dentist in the Seoul area.
Anyone know of a good one?

I'll be getting dental work done in Thailand this summer. My neighbor had a ton of work done last summer. The dentists at the good hospitals in Bangkok and Chaing Mai are excellent and cheap. I'm also getting a complete health examination while I am there.

I spent the better part of the past 2 years in dentist chairs in Gwangju having fillings, root canals, crown lengthening and crowns done. Chonam Univ hospital downtown did an adequete job for a decent price albeit at an older facility. Chosun nearby looks OK though I wasn't there

I did go to a new facility out in Sangmu-ji-gu near the airport and the last stop on the soon to be opened subway line the Mir Dental Hospital, this place was brand new with top rate facilities tv screens at every chair etc.

Prices were about the same as chosun and the staff spoke good english. I had a tooth pullled for 6000 won. I think the nat'l health insurance sets the cost for the basic stuff but the crown prices were higher though.

Only problem Mir was they seemed to be going the route of some US dentists that of pushing expensive cosmetic work. You may need to be careful of that

My co-worker just went to the dentist and said it was all clean and nice and as good as if not better than Western standards. She paid something like 13,000 for a bunch of fillings or something. She was happy.

Removed an old filling, gave me a root canal, filled up the hole in my tooth over several visits, filed it down, popped on a gold cap. Cost around 280,000 total.

I also got the gold tooth treatment for about 250 000 won plus a few extras.

My friend got his wisdom tooth pulled for 6 000 won. I couldn't believe it but thats how much it was.
