I did some searching about the Asian EFL Journal and got many sketchy responses. Lots of people complaining about not getting certificates and whatnot. However, there's a seminar in Daegu that's being run in April. Does anyone have any info about this?

It looks legit and is associated with Daegu pockets (local expat mag). Just concerned as it is quite costly. Any info is appreciated. |

furtakk,
I am one of the teacher trainers for the course.
In the past, the courses being run were a bit sketchy at times. At others they were quite successful. As of late 2009, Vedec Ltd, a company located in Busan, purchased the rights to offer the courses here in Korea. The course has made leaps and bounds over the last 6 months and I think you would be satisfied with the course. It is an investment and require teachers to put some serious work into improving their own classroom abilities.
Those teachers from the October and November courses that have yet to receive their certs have not yet completed the course requirements. Therefore, it is their own faults that they have not received the certificates. Every teacher that has completed the requirements has received it. If you have any questions, visit our website at www.vedec.co.kr or post here on eslcafe. We are in the process of developing a teacher organization as well that will be launched at the end of April.
Hope this helps. I am very serious about teacher training and there will be no shady 'going-ons' as long as we are in charge of running the course. Asian EFL Journal as a journal is solid. It is unfortunate that some previous courses were not held up to the true standards. But that has changed, and I demand a lot from teachers. However, it is a formative rather than cumulative process. I will work with teachers to ensure understanding of methodologies and activities. |

That's a wonderful response. May I ask a question? How many instructors are there and what are their qualifications?
Individual degrees, teaching experience, and publications/presentations? |
