IEMs are amazing. I have one pair of JVC marshmallows which I'm not a big fan of - they feel weird and the sound is average.

then i got some sennheisers - LOW END ones at that (maybe $25). unbelievable. cant believe something can have sound like that and be comfortable. makes me want to shell out for a really pricey pair.

You should. If you can find the Klipsch Image S4 IEM's (99,000) then they're well worth it. Amazing clarity, dynamics, balance and comfort.

Plus, a huge benefit if you commute in Korea, almost total noise isolation.

bose in ear headphones are great. i think that they are a little more expensive in korea than the states though...i hate ear buds because they fall out too easy. the bose come with three sets of plugs and they don't fall out easily. plus the sound is exceptional!

I like a good bit of bass, and when I told the guy at the headphone shop in Yongsan this, he directed me towards iharmonix. I went for a pair of iharmonix Platinum-ev series (80,000W) and I can safely say they are the best headphones I've ever had (previously had Seinnheiser and Sony). They have a really solid build, great sound and the usual selection of ear buds so one should fit your ear.
If you like a bit of bass, try these. I tried all other earbud-style headphones in the store at Yongsan (including some of the top end Bose and Shure ones) and they didn't come close for bass response.

OK, that's my plug over!

Sorry, but if you buy Bose, your opinion is automatically invalid.

You stated that it was your opinion, which you are entitled to, but bass can be a blessing and a curse. Lower end products/brands will sometimes up the bass in an attempt to make their product sound better to the unassuming consumer (a fair amount of people think loudness + bass level=high quality). Higher end products can allow you to enjoy a fuller range of sounds, as the artist intended. A proper amount of good quality bass is best. I say this as a big fan of car audio as well.

Yeah, I've realised that I am a bass junkie, and I'm happy to sacrifice some of the other areas of sound in order to achieve that. That's why the iharmonix work so well for me. You're absolutely right about lower end products sometimes ramping up the bass, I have a pair of E-Mart in-ears that I bought for running, they cost 15K. The bass is really good, but nothing else is!

Because most people don't want to pay 2 to 3 times the price for the same product. Bose isn't a great audio company, it's a great marketing company. They don't publish their specs for a reason. Sure, they are great (entry-level) products, but if I'm gonna lay down a few hundred, I better be getting Grados or Shures or something amazing.

In sum: price-performance ratio is shockingly bad. Sorry, but you lost a lot of money on your headphones. If you've got money to burn, though, don't worry about it. It's sort of like buying Monster cables versus a random cable. You pay way more for the same thing.
