Hey Everyone,

I'm (trying) to renew my contract with my public high school (not through Epik). This will be my third year. Last year - re-signed - no problem.

This year, a new Vice Principal wants"paperwork to be perfect." Now - they're saying I need a background check. I was under the impression that re-newing a contract with your old school meant you wouldn't need to go through this.

My contract is up in 7 days. My co-teacher says I can go to the U.S. Embassy and take an oath...

Anyone with any information/advice please pitch in...

Thanks,
T

Hi There,

Maybe the best idea is to ring the embassy and ask.

You may need weekday time to go to the embassy so google them and check the website for information and call them pretty soon. The background check is likely to take time.

Unless the oath is enough you might find you have to leave Korea when your contract finishes.

The new contract and paperwork will need to be submitted to immigration before the current time is up. I believe they might even expect people to allow 2 days for processing.

It would be worth it to call them and ask too.

I hope this helps.

If you have previously submitted a CRC to immigration for this visa/status of sojourn (or its subsequent extensions) then you do NOT need to submit a new one.

IF you did NOT submit one to immigration for this visa or any of it's extensions then you will have to get one from home, swear an affidavit at YOUR embassy and submit that along with your other extension documents.

Your new VP may not be quite aware of the difference and requirements for renewals and extensions as compared to new registrations.

If they want one and you can get one, i'd say just do it to make them happy, if it is not possible then try to explain to them that they do not need this done - ask your boss to call immigration to confirm this, or find the foreign help line number (I forgot) and ask him to call that and confirm.

You don't need another background check to renew, got that information from Korean Immigration, go to their website, their is a phone number for English Speakers. Have your principal talk to them, they will explain it to him, its the law. When I renewed it was simple, my passport, my Arc card, and my original contract and a copy for them, 15 minutes the visa sticker was in my passport.
