A South Korean couple have gone on trial charged with allowing their baby daughter to starve to death while they played an online computer game.
The couple are due to be sentenced on 16 April |
Now, I don't know everything about this case, but I know it hasn't been what US courts would consider a long time since this couple was charged for their crime. Seems to me like a modicum of swift justice is creeping in here. Maybe it's because the crime is so universally unsavory in this country (as it would be everywhere).
I also don't know if all sentencing normally happens so fast here, but I know, as a foreign teacher, that normal day-to-day decisions don't get this much immediate attention, and sometimes don't get any. So this is quite a quick turnaround time. |

I think it's great that justice (though often misplaced here, but not in this case) is swift. |

It's not a similar case, but I had an American friend who was up on a drug charge last year. He went to trial 5 weeks after being arrested, plead guilty and was sentenced 2 weeks later. People kept telling me it was taking ages, but I was thinking that this would've taken way longer in Australia. Then again, he probably would've been out on bail in Australia too. |

This was a pretty publicized arrest so it's only understandable that it gets pushed forward to keep an anxious public craving justice. |

I first put this in the general discussion forum. Now, I don't care if it's in one forum or the other, except that if I couldn't guess right about where to put it, the lines seem a little blurred. I truly thought that this topic would directly relate to 'living and [/or] teaching in Korea'. |

I'd say Off-Topic, but whatever. Meh. |
