Has anyone worked for this school, or know someone who does? So far i've found alot of negative postings on SLP in general, but it seems schools and opinions can vary depending on location. I have not found any reviews for Geumjeong SLP in Busan area. Any information would be great...thanks!!!

I'll make this short, sweet and simple.

READ THE CONTRACT.

Be advised that you WILL work just about twice the workload of most other teachers in Korea for THE SAME MONEY.

In SLP you will be contracted for 21 classes of 80 minutes (+ the 10 minute bread mid class so it is really 21 classes of 90 minutes).

Translation = 1680 to 1890 minutes standing in front of your class (28 - 31.5 hours IN THE CLASS).

Your AVERAGE hakwon worker does 30 classes of 50 minutes (1500 minutes or 25 hours IN THE CLASS).

A public school teacher (elementary) does 22 classes of 40 minutes (<15 hours IN THE CLASS) per week.

They all get the same money and should all get similar benefits.

Actually, PS teachers get about 4 weeks more holiday than you will get at SLP.

Double the work for the same pay, fewer holidays and probably no NHIC or NPS.

READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY. and with a critical eye.

I also have an interview for SLP in their Bucheon location. I have read the posts about the school but am still going on the interview. If I get a contract I will read it carefully and then make my decision. I was also told to ask to speak to one of the foreign teachers to find out about the actually working conditions.

A word of advice if you are thinking about working for this school. go over to yahoo and type in "geumjeong slp" and check out the 3rd link, read the reviews, and with any school talk with more then "one" foreign teacher.

I have an understanding that an average private school teacher will have about 30 hours teaching. When you say more work is that all the prep work you have to do?

Just read the post, it's self explanatory.

Never worked there, so I can't say. I know one guy who worked at one near Haeundae and he really liked it.

However, he is the one and only person I've ever heard say good things about SLP.

Talk to the teachers at the school you are looking at. They will be able to give you a lot more info than anyone here.

SLP = Slave Labor Program

Look it up. There is a reason for this acronym.
