DVD drives are region locked just like DVD players.

Use VLC media player (videolan.org) and it ignores all the region coding crap. So yes, it's easily possible to use American DVDs on a PC here.

Great, so to confirm, if I don't want to buy a special DVD player- one can just watch a US videon on the computer. I am on tight budget! Tx

If you're not here yet then don't take DVDs over with you. Just download when you get here.

Believe me, I made that mistake the first time I came over and brought about 20 movies and boxsets with me.

If you're bringing your own computer with you, it would already be set to whatever region you're in or the DVDs you watch are. It doesn't detect where you are so it won't know if you move. You can change the region if you want. But it won't let you again after either 3 or 4 times. For PCs from Korea (or not), software like VLC is better than CyberDVD or PowerDVD or even Windows Media Player anyway, and it doesn't mind the region coding stuff.

I agree with the above poster, though. DVDs and CDs take up too much space and weight in the luggage. I'd try to bring relatively few.
