So my wife sends me an e-mail sayin' our fearless English leader in the local ed office wants a copy of her passport? We have been here since Sept. of 08' Why would she be asking for this?

It's random busy work for here. Someone higher up than her has decreed that he needs all the waegook passports. In our respective home countries we would ask;

"What the eff for?"
"Why are you making random busy work for me?"

Here it's more like a request from God himself. Would you second guess a request from God himself?

Yea

I've been here long enough to know how their system works. They ask for stuff all the time but it doesn't mean they always get it.

Yea we gave out only one copy when we first arrived. They should still have it. Just because they lose something or are too lazy to go find the other one doesn't mean we give it too them when they ask.

They're just being nosey.
K-authorities tend to want to know absolutely all your private details down to your underwear size. Its a form of control. Of course they would never dream of telling you all their own details.
