Hey guys,
what would happen if you were back in your home country for a vacation during the expiry date on your ARC on an f2 visa?
Are you allowed to renew it in advance of the expiry date and if so, does anyone know how early you are allowed to?
thx |

I would guess that if you went to immigration with a ticket that showed travel during your expiry time they'd possibly let you renew it early or otherwise advise you how you can renew it while you're abroad. |

You can renew/extend it up to 60 days in advance of its expiry.

Sounds like a question better directed at AFEK. Aren't there minimum residence requirements in terms of days in country to maintain an F-2? |

The longest you can get is 90days on your re entry permit. But they might give you a one time extension at the korean consulate?? It says that on their website. |

I just did this.
I went back to the states in June and just came back last month. I came back less than a week after my F-2 visa expired. I just arrived on the normal travel/tourist visa and switched it again on Friday. The fee changed from 90k to 60k. There was an extra form I noticed because they changed the process a little bit. I had to bring my husband's ID card and he had to fill out another form that basically confirmed he is REALLY Korean (not like they don't already require enough proof of that).
Don't worry, it is fine. They like us foreigners in their country. Just get through security at the airport by saying you are coming for travel and plan to leave in 3 weeks. I also put down that I was staying at the Hamilton Hotel.
You can also have your ARC delivered. Not sure when they started doing that but it saves me time and costs about the same as if I went to pick it up. |

But presumably when you do this, you are resetting your immigration record such that you'd have to wait another 2 years to qualify for F-5...and did you end up with a new ARC number? |

I tried to renew mine a few years ago and they wouldn't let me because it was too soon. I think I tried about 3 or 4 months before. |

I don't even know what my old ARC number was because they took my card away. I also am not to worried about getting my F-5 visa, an F-2 works well enough for me. I won't be staying longer than 5 years anyway. I also didn't have a choice, I had to leave to finish school. I couldn't return before my visa expired.
Good questions though. OP should try calling immigration 5 times and take whatever answer he receives the most! |
