Let's be honest here. The Italian bloke didn't deserve to get sent off, and if Australia can't score against 10 men, well they didn't deserve to win.
The guy did make a meal of the tackle and my biased outlook says no penalty, but I think Aussies need to stop whinging so much, we're a joke on that front.
It would be nice to see Spain win. One of the biggest underachievers out there. |

You mean that American team that beat Spain last year and was leading 2-0 at the half against Brazil? Yeah, they suck. |
In a summer friendly competition. Sorry, but it has to be said. |
Bull. The Confederations Cup isnt the World Cup, but those games were not friendlies. Did you see the look on the Spanish faces when they lost? Devestation. They were going for an international record of consecutive wins when the US beat them. Did you see the over the top celebrations on the Brazilian side when they came back and won? The US had strong games against elite opponents who were at full strength, cared, and tried their hardest to win. |

| I don't fancy South Korea's chances that much. Tough draw for them. I wonder how TV coverage will be affected when they get knocked out in the first round? |

Quite, but in a World Cup, Spain, playing at the level they have been for the last two years, would annihilate the US. End of story. |

I did see it but didn't read it the same way. Possibly that record meant something to Spain but you don't get a star on your shirt for the confederations cup. Brazil reacted much like anyone do when they come back from two nil down in style.
The US played well, I'm sure. I doubt you will go far past round 2 in the world cup though. Be careful of Slovenia in your group. They actually had to beat good teams to qualify for this thing. |

| I could see the USA giving England a run for their money. England will once again achieve what is expected. a round of 16 or quarter-finals exit (if they are lucky). That would not be underachieving. Their stupid media has expected semis/finals appearances for decades now and just don't want to admit that they aren't a top tier team and never were. If I were English and my team made the quarters I would be pretty darn grateful. If I were Brasilian, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Argentinean etc I would definitely feel like my countrymen "underachieved." |

I will be cheering for france and england
To get beaten badly in every game.
I will support Spain and some of the lesser nations too like the African teams, U.S and Australia....oh and not to mention the norkies
I know these teams are better than Ireland, I just mean lesser in the context of the favourites for the world cup. |

Come on, people. I think it's pretty obvious who's going to win this years Cup: Germany. Third place finish in 2006, second place in Euro 2008 - see a pattern emerging?
Anyway, here's hoping... we need another Kahn... |

They'll still have plenty of coverage and of course show the remaining matches.
It will just be much more subdued coverage here after the massive buildup. |

At least the bars won't be so full after the first week! Korea are unlucky to have this group. They'll be underdogs in all their games, and they'll do well to get 2 points. |

| The US is my team no doubt, but I am not that ignorant. I will also be pulling for Spain, because that's the country most of my heritage is from. I want SK and NK to lose, because I have a lot cocky Korean friends and older students that are saying they'll do better than the nifty fifty. |

One piece of drama I'm waiting to unfold is whether Joe Cole goes to the WC or not. I think he should. He was their best attacking player last time 'round. It's a shame he hasn't lived up to the potential that he so obviously has shown.
On a side note, I'm currently trying to sign him for my West Ham team on Championship Manager 03/04. I got Frank Lampard back to the club, but he wasn't that highly rated back in those days. Managed to get Beckham, Rooney and G. Neville. As well as J. Milner. It's surprising how many players they picked to be stars in the future. No Messi, but he would've been about 14 when the game cam out. |

lol..why aren't you playing football manager? It's awesome although I had to delete it from my hard drive as it was eating my life.
Joe Cole has world class talent. the feeling I get was that he was wasted in England. He plays best as a creative player behind a striker, or cutting in from wide in a similar role. The English fixation with 442 probably hurt him early on. |
