Hi folks - I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had problems getting an official EPIK letter: stating your years of service with the programme/contract dates/school assignments/general duties etc. I left Korea last Fall (after 4 years of service) and did not get one...my pension refund came through fine...albeit I was denied my exit allowance (1.3 mil won) because I went back to Canada vis-a-vis Singapore, Cairo and Rome...seems I went the wrong way Wink But so what the hell--ok bud the chief--it's always Korean [faulty] logic with respect to how contractual matters are interpreted...I'm a Canadian not a robot after all. We can exit in many directions...just pay out the exit money as stated in the EPIK contract...(nope not a chance). Sorry for the ramble, just giving you some insight...but, I would appreciate getting this document asap. Has anyone ever made a similar request to the EPIK HQ in Seoul? (I've faxed Korean friends, who've run the request [letter] past the POE officers I worked for...and months of emails back and forth like a yoyo...nothing yet [!]) Korean blind leading the blind?

I need this document for my current file with the NET programme based in Hong Kong. One's teaching experience in the EPIK programme, adds weight to your professional profile on the pay grid, thus the need for this sort of letter. It is also needed for Canada. My local school board (OCSB - Ottawa)...has also requested a fax from the EPIK HQ. Dizzy miss lizzy or what...? I thought they were keen to master global ideas?

Korea Sparkling. I've been by the Korean Embassy here in Ottawa, too, and they're more concerned about courting new ESL teachers...than assisting former teachers, who did a good job while stationed in the ESL wing of the Hermit Kingdom. I may have to dust off the PhotoShop soon.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! Rolling Eyes Idea

Your old SCHOOL (not EPIK) is required by law to provide you with a record of employment on request. It is issued by the admin office.

It will state:
name,
address,
position
Start date
end date
address of school
school stamp AND signature

If you want it in English or bilingual then perhaps one of the K-English teachers at the school can help you. Do you have the schools web page address? Contact information can usually be found there.

Well, I have worked at about a dozen schools over that time period. I was never given one of these items (then again I never asked). I have made my request known through Korean co-teacher friends...and sent faxes to the POE admin. office...and to EPIK, simply requesting a summary of my service [time] in the Korean public school system.

I may make up the letter myself and have my Korean VP friend, and his principal, sign it and send it to me--that might work just as well. I'd list all the schools and dates attended; duties; and a brief blurb on what the EPIK programme is all about. Perhaps, that would be the quickest solution...I am in Ottawa...not Busan. They'd stamp and add the letterhead. I would hope they could manage that task. Seems straightforward enough.

Thanks for the advice and insights - cheers! Smile
