I wanna go somewhere, anywhere, outside Korea for Buddha's birthday weekend. But, as one could imagine, it's hard to find a cheap ticket. Any ideas? I'd like to go somewhere visa-free (or with a cheap visa, so China's out); I'm an American.
Any ideas? |

One thing you might consider is springing an extra $20 for a double-entry Chinese visa and going back for your next short break. It'd break down to $80 per visit, and there's nowhere else I know of that you can fly to for less than $200 unless you get REALLY lucky with Cebu or wherever's discount fares. China is far down the list of my preferred travel destinations, but a few days there will make Korea look sane. |

Not a bad idea. Too bad I went to China in December and decided against the double-entry then |

I found super cheap flights on Expedia, but they have long layovers. It's only a 3 day weekend and you are looking at one day to get there and another day to get back. You are looking at a grand total of about 30 hours to enjoy a destination which to me isn't enough, but is just a quick and expensive glimpse. I'm going to wait until my vacation time and when I decide to leave Korea before flying away. You can touch your feet down on another land on a weekend, but not stay long enough to make it worth the money. |

Where have you found tickets for less than $200? I've been looking for quite a while and the cheapest tickets to Beijing I've found is around $250 with really bad layovers. |

If you're looking for Buddha's birthday weekend, then yeah I'm not surprised they're a little more expensive. Where are you looking, though? A quick glance at Orbitz shows a flight leaving Thursday afternoon (if your school's laid-back) and returning Sunday for $206. If you can't leave until Friday it's still only $240, direct flight one way and 90-minute layover on the return.
Korean sites (nextour.co.kr, 072.com) and travel agents ([email protected]) are almost always cheaper. Also try english.ctrip.com, but be aware they sometimes list flights/fares that are sold out. China Eastern and China Southern Airlines, etc., sometimes have sales on their respective sites. |

I suppose my problem is that the tickets at the times I can actually go are high. My school's not very laid back about giving me days off or leaving early. Plus the visa is so expensive |
