I hate studying tactics on TV because 99% of the game happens off the ball. ie off screen. I learned more about tactics watching a couple of dozen amateur matches live, than 200 premier league games on TV. I have aspirations to be a coach at some stage so I would pay big money for an option where you can watch any part of the game at any time. |
I'd highly recommend reading 'Inverting the Pyramid' by jonathan wilson.
There also a number of blogs with the one I mentioned above being the best imo. Also read Jonathan Wilson's archive on the Guardian website.
The tape you need is only available to the teams i think(i read somewhere arsenal has a camera on every player). I think there are some sites that with graphics show you where the average pos of each player is and have some other info. I'm more into the big picture so I never really look for these but I'll have a look around. |

Cheers.
They must have some sort of device that tracks the players 'cos sometimes they show how many KMs the player ran during the game. I remember seeing Kaka get subbed after 80mins and he had run 10,000 metres . I doubt they strapped a GPS to him, so it must have been a camera of some type.
In rugby, there are private companies that track the players and sell the stats to the coaches. I'm sure far more sophisticated systems exist for soccer.
I really want to be a coach some day, but my experience consists of (poorly) coaching a University level team about two and a half years ago, plus about 10 years of playing, and not much else. I would really like to study the craft but it is hard to get a leg up. Luckily I am young, and teaching translates well into coaching. |

all of the sky four knocked out by april - how is andy grey going to fill up the next two months before the world cup with inane superlatives about 'SIR' alex and the'rocks' that are united back four -despite all playing awfully last night - now?
although without rooney, in-ger-lund might as well not go to the world cup, so i hope it's nothing and he's recovered. otherwise where's the fun in being crushed when we get knocked out in the quarters |

Rooney is out for a month. Not the end of the world. He will be back in time to fire them to the league victory, but he would have been useful against Bayern next week. |
Chelsea are gonna win it this year I reckon. United arent that good this season, with their average age of about 75 |

Looks like you might be right. They always find a way though. How many times have they snatched points in the dying minutes, this season?
Man Utd's average age in key positions is an issue. It doesn't look like Hargreaves will ever return, and Carrick is a wee bit cack. I rate his passing, for what it is worth. But the average age and ability of their entire squad is just fine. As long as the likes of Anderson(should do better), Nani (came right after the spat with Fergie, but appears to be regressing again), Gibson (has looked good in his few chances this season), continue to improve at their current rate, I don't see too many problems.
The bigger problem for them is, who will replace Fergie? |

United will be there but obviously Chelsea are going to have to slip up now. Who knows though United could still win it regardless of not being all that. More importantly it looks like Rooney is on the mend and may even face Bayern Munich tomorrow.
Fergie isnt finished yet Im sure, and I think even after he quits managing he will take on a role watching over. David Moyes as replacement would not be a shock. He is young and has done superbly at Everton on no budget, and he would get Fergie's vote Im sure because he is more the type to keep up the team-building ethos rather than steam in and spend all the money. |

The rooniac is definitely out for the Bayern game. Unless Furg pulls a fast one and names him on the bench or something. I wouldn't put it passed him. |

if bacon face forces rooney to play any part in wednesdays, or saturdays games, we might as well say goodbye to a decent showing in a few weeks. rushing him back does not work. |

He won't play.
However, my pick is that the injury isn't as bad as it appeared last week. There was a rumor that he trained in the closed sessions early in the week, but he definitely wasn't at the open sessions yesterday. Therefore, I'm going to put it out there that it's all a big piece of gamesmanship by furg dog. Rooney will tear out onto the field tomorrow morning(local time), in peak physical condition. Without nary a niggle or a scratch. Just putting it out there. It could happen. |

HYHahahahahahahahahahaha
I was right! Rooney is miraculously passed fit to play! I can read Fergie and his old tricks like a book. |

Fergie didn't seem THAT bothered.
In the end it saved him and his team the humiliation of being outclassed by Barca in the final. |
