I think Korea has a chance to get out of their group. I admit I'm not much of a soccer fan outside of World Cup years, but they've had a good string of results lately. They also beat Ivory Coast 2-0, which is pretty impressive, considering all the pundits are praising the Ivory Coast's talent.

They probably need 5 points to move on probably. Less if either Nigeria or Greece completely falls apart. They could very well beat both Greece and Nigeria. Korea has some pretty good players doing well in Europe like Lee Chung Yong and Park Chu Young. Haven't heard much of that kid that went to Celtic, but he's supposed to be very good. Also, their youth teams have had a very good year and a lot more Koreans are going to Europe.

I'm not pulling for Korea, but I wouldn't be surprised at a second round run either.

Sorry for the longish post, but I think the US is going to have to win the group in order to get to the quarterfinals. A second round appearence wouldn't be too bad though. Who knows, maybe the Kiwis will be the shock of the world this time around Razz

For us England fans I suspect it will be no change from the usual; The press over-hyping our chances and then it all ending in tears in some unlucky fashion against the first decent team we play.

I think you're over-exaggerating the performances of the Korean players in Europe. Doing well? Hardly. Given Greece's solid performances over the last decade in tournaments, I highly doubt Korea will beat them.

I would say South Korea completely lucked out in their draw. Their group sure isn't easy but isn't exactly a gauntlet either. North Korea will have it much harder. So will Japan.

Greece fluked the Euro championship 6 years ago, but have bombed out of every major tournament since then, including Euro '08. They have no recognized players. Maybe Kyrgiakos (who shares my birthday), but I would rather have PJS than him. Korea should be pretty aggrieved if they don't beat Greece. If they can draw with Nigeria, they might be able to get through on goal diff. They just need Argentina to spank Nigeria.

You can fluke one or two games sure but a whole tournament? I don't buy it at all. Greece are solid defensively and have a decent partnership up front (Gekas has a rather decent scoring record). Korea have no proven goal scorer (Dong-Gook's goals have predominantly come against diddy teams) and PJS isn't all he's cracked up to be. 2 - 0 Greece is my prediction. I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong about Greece winning.

I'd hardly call the Greece's performance in the last 10 years solid. They've won 1 lucky tournament, didn't qualify for '02 or '06 and and earned 0 points in Euro '08.

But Korea isn't much better. Korea will be hard pressed to make it out of the group stages. But I wouldn't be too surprised if they did.

Australia for sure, then either Spain(too much talent) or England(underachievers but I watch mostly the premier league). I hate Italy with a passion after the last world cup and the way Australia was cheated out of getting into the next round.

Let's be honest here. The Italian bloke didn't deserve to get sent off, and if Australia can't score against 10 men, well they didn't deserve to win.

The guy did make a meal of the tackle and my biased outlook says no penalty, but I think Aussies need to stop whinging so much, we're a joke on that front.

It would be nice to see Spain win. One of the biggest underachievers out there.

Fair point about not scoring against ten men, still we did beat Japan(I was living and working in Japan at the time) and it was nice to go to work and talk to my students about that.

Yep. The usual 'Best chance in years', 'Golden Generation' rubbish before getting comprehensively outplayed by a mid-ranking eastern-European team. If Rooney isn't firing at 100%, then England are basically done for.

I have no expectations for my team--we barely squeezed through qualifying (via the playoffs), and there's still no midfield to speak of, though most of us pundits know we have the weapons to actually hold the ball and control it. Our coach just insists on using older players who just don't have it anymore.

Korea qualifies year after year because of its weak qualifying group every single time. In this case, it'll be whoever sucks the least that qualifies with Argentina.

I'd love to see both Greece and Nigeria spank Korea, but I don't see any of it happening. The bookies must be having an aneurysm figuring this group out. My prediction: Argentina 1st, Nigeria 2nd.

I feel sorry for the Nigerians here if their home team beats SK.

More importantly, does anyone know any bars that will screen the All Whites games? Will be a miracle if we manage to get any points, but it ain't every year we're in the WC so i'd like to see a game at least!

I'm not even going to support the All Whites. If they score a goal I will be happy.

I'm more interested in places that will be screening it in 3D.
