I've tried searching, and I didn't come up with anything that answered all of my questions, so I am sorry if this info is online...
Here is my situation. I was fired by my hagwon owner last night because he says the school hasn't been making any money. I've only been here 3 months so I do not have enough money to buy a plane ticket back to the states and he is refusing to purchase a flight for me. I have to be out of my apartment by monday. I have never had a complaint, never been late, never breached my contract once. I am trying to find another job quickly, but on such short notice over a weekend it hardly seems possible to find another job that will be similar to the one I lost. So basically I am going to be homeless, jobless, and in a foreign country...and I am pretty damn scared.
Do I have any legal rights to prevent myself from getting fired or at least getting a ticket back to the states? |

Under labor law you are considered a probationary employee until you have completed six months. So there isn't much you can do in regards to getting your job back. However were I you I would post my resume on this job site in the resume section (might take a few reposts) and you should get something.
Another option would be to ask your family to wire money to your account over here so you can get a plane ticket back.
I would also check with the local embassy as well.
I think most people on here (the decent ones at least) are pulling for you man. Let us know if things work out. And try to get a Letter of Release from your boss. That will facilitate further employment. |

| Try and get some accomodation at a cheap love hotel. You should be able to find something cheap out of a main area for 25,000ish a night. I don't know about legal issues but it could help you buy some more time. |

| Well try to get some kind of settlement out of him. You know that a return ticket on the Beetle is about, what, 300 with tax? Tell him you're going to need to make a visa run in order to find a job, and he would be an honorable person if he gave you that 300, plus a train ticket, and a recommendation letter, and a release letter, etc. It's not a ticket home, but it's better than nothing. |

I've been in a similar position.
First get a letter of release, even though you are under the usual 9 month mark for visa transfers, immigration usually waive this if you are transferring to a public school.
Look for afterschool jobs or any public school jobs, most afterschool companies are looking for people in country with a visa to transfer. You'll get priority for a job if you can transfer your visa. Noble education (they usually advertise on worknplay) are a pretty decent afterschool company. If you have any further questions then send me a PM, I've had a lot of experience with this! |

Hi Narconis,
Never fear you are better off signing with a new job anyway, it will probably be better.
Take any recommendation and run with it. It's no problem unless you stay without any visa.
The new school can hep arrange the visa transfer. The letter of release is important.
PM me if you still are having trouble. |
