I have to come up with a 2 hour lesson plan for an American culture class. This is my first week on the job and they just kind of threw me in there without much training or guidance. I was thinking of using a simpsons episode as the basis of the class but discussing that/answering classes for it would only take about an hour probably. there will only be 4 students in that class. I could use some help coming up with ideas for the 2nd hour.

Hi There,

How about a PPT showing some pictures of the major cities and describing each state with some basic facts? I hear they are all so different.

With a bit of luck you could find it online...making it might be a chore.

They're pretty much spot-on, in that case.

Looks like nothing helpful is going to come from this thread.

Anyhow, if you're still reading, OP, go ahead and try southern, northern, eastern, and western. I would aim for...Cape Cod in the East, Tulsa in the South, St. Paul in the North, and Santa Fe in the West.

You've got two hours, so 30/30/30/30.

5 minute overview.
3 minute food.
2 minute history.
20 minute discussion and Q/A.

Repeat four times.

Why these podunk cities? Go with the ones people will have actually heard of: New York, LA, Chicago, (uuuuuuuuuuh) Atlanta? Dallas? Is Texas culture part of American culture?

'all' our disposable income? How did you deduce that may I ask?

All the same, back to nursery for you.

Whew! Taking stabs.

There's a hint of truth to both insults.

Yes, the U.S. has culutre. A melting pot of pretty much every culture in the world. There are a plethora of ethnic pockets placed everywhere.
Many people from outside (and inside, for that matter) have no idea what type of variety is encompassed in the U.S. Most of them are watching bad tv, music and cinema programming - media. The 'worst' of the U.S. is exported to the rest of the world.
I see it everywhere and shake my head in amazement and disdain. ...with some smiles and curiosity.

Until you leave the country, it is difficult to grasp the immense size. It's the size of China for god's sake.

The cities mentioned above are kind of 'podunk' like one poster said. But, I like the idea of cities and info about them.
Music and sports are also very influential. Example: There are more fans of basketball in China than there are people living in the U.S. How does this little tidbit factor in SK? I'm not sure of the popularity of the sport on the peninsula.
