Just arrived this weekend and will be the only foreign teacher at my school for a couple of months. I live right next to the Chungdahm Institute branch and in the Toss English building. Anyone familiar with the places in the area expats hang out around here? I know CDI has a dozen foreign teachers or so, so I know they've got to be around here somewhere.

Yeah youre right about CDI, it shouldnt be too long before you start bumping into the teachers there and theyll be able to help you out. There are 2 bars in Edong that teachers sometimes go to (or at least used to go to), the WA bar and... actually Im having a mental block at the mo and cant remember the name of the other!(I only went there once). But there are 3 bars downtown one block back from McD's - Beethovens, Whistler and Mindys. Lots of teachers and US Marines (esp in whistlers as its just newly reopened).

My director showed me a bar with some statues of Elvis and some other people. She said foreigners used to go there, but wasn't sure if they did anymore. And the USMC base in the city closed down a couple of years ago, so unless there's something else nearby I don't think there are any military personnel in the city (which I'm glad of, really). I'll check out WA Bar though, I think I saw it when I was snooping around.

Giant Step is the name of the bar -- WA Bar and Giant Step...and yes, there are military folks downtown in the evenings....

Does English Club still meet? If so, where? Been out of the loop awhile, looking to maybe hop back in....
