Loved this. Every Chicagoan has heard of Daniel Burnham and his plan that Chicago is largely based on. I had no idea he was responsible for the fair. Larson does a great job of description.
H.H. Holmes was a truly sick evil genius. Jack the Ripper was a pansy amateur by comparison. Freaky.
I'm currently reading The Fountainhead in which Ayn Rand rails against the architecture of the 1893 world's fair. |

Need a new author now. |

Communication: Organisation and Innovation.
Its actually quite interesting learning the different ways that we communicate and how we can improve our communication. I found that I am guilty of making a number of mistakes in my listening to what is being said.
I also have to find ways to improve my non conflict type of communicating ideas. |

Deep River by Shusaku Endo
Five Japanese, each with their own history, travel to India in search of different things. It's a spiritual conquest, each hoping for absolution or resolve.
One of the best books I've read in a long time.
If you like Japanese literature, another one I enjoyed, but for different reasons is Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata. Kawabata received a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968.
If anyone can recommend other good Japanese novels, post them here! |

It's basically a historical look at all the inconsistencies in the bible and the church as well as much of the evil that has been done in the name of god.
I think its a good book but not what I was looking for. I'll check out the God Delusion next. |

i've liked hitchens' stuff but there is something about him that puts me on edge a little bit. i think it's the neo-con in him.

The Shock Doctrine is another gem that should be required reading in university IMO.
Jared Diamond is great too.
Have you read anything else that you can recommend? |
