Yes.

I should add another question: Since Netflix has so many movies available for streaming now, are any of you subscribing to the service for that? How is it going? I have been a very contented Netflix user stateside.

I don't think it's available outside of the States.

2 to 1 says you will be downloading movies before the year is out.

You won't have a choice. Hollywood blockbusters get a fairly limited run at the cinema, but decent movies are a rare treat. There are heaps of DVD rental stores, but they only carry blockbusters, B Holywood movies and of course Korean films (which are universally great, be sure to check them out).

Maybe you could hit up the itunes store, maybe. But I don't know what their availability and release dates are like.

Piracy laws simply aren't enforced here, and you'll have superfast internet. It's one of the great things about this country. Download as much as you like, you'll have no bother. Just make sure you've got a big HDD.

Is anyone else here bothered a little by this, morally speaking? You're probably right, I'll just cave on the issue in order to have access to what I want to see. But I won't have any justification for it, other than that I want that access. It will make me a wee bit uneasy, although not so much I won't be able to sleep at night.

Or maybe I'll just buy more DVDs through Amazon, or whatever source has the cheapest international shipping.

I'm not sure that a lack of enforceable intellectual property law is anything that makes a country great. But I am grateful to you for sharing the truth of the matter with me.

I think you'll sleep fine at night!!

Just for arguments sake, in Korea, if you can't buy the DVD in the shops, and the movie theaters don't show it, then the film-makers don't really lose any money if you then decide to download it.......because you couldn't have bought it anyway.

Many of the dvds for sale are bootleg....blu-rays are rare and prices even higher.

There are dvd rental stores....

I'd say just download if you want some western movies....also some korean movies that claim to have eng subtitles on the box do not Rolling Eyes

Let's not even get started on reigion zones if your bringing a decent american Dvd player or really late release dates(some movies don't hit korean theaters for YEARS, let alone dvd).

And why stick with Dvds...it's the year 2010, upgrade to blu-ray or start downloading High-def.....watching Dvd quality is laugable these days....not to mention the piss poor sound.

Lastly, many pay legitimate audio and video streaming sites for legal content simply don't work here without a proxy...pandora, NBC streaming HDTV? Forget it....

Hell, even some music sites won't even let me purchase music.....

This is ok http://btjunkie.org/ but some movies are a bit iffy. for example, I was watching "The spy that came in from the cold" and for some reason after about 30 mins the dialog was dubbed over in Italian.

I can think of a few good places:

demonoid
thebox
bithq
nordic-t
torrential
scenehd

to name but a few.

Strikes me as strange though that some folks have a problem downloading movies but no problem lying on a (government) visa application form when they go to the consulate.

Isohunt.com works for all most of my bit torrent needs, along with Radioarchive.cc for my inner spoken word/comedy junkie.

Yeah man, why not. Only AFKN et al. crap is available for Mightey Whitey
in Korea anyway. Also them Hollywood dudes make too much $$$.
I don't see nothing wrong with downloading.
