I'm working through a recruiter who told me I have to travel back to the US to get my E2 visa. They said they checked with immigration, but I think maybe they didn't because I know many people go to Japan to get their visa (if they're already in Korea). Does anyone know why they might think this? |

Possibly because the recruiter and/or the individual at immigration are misinformed. How long have you been here? Have you already completed a contract? |

If you've had an E2 before then you definitely don't have to go home for the interview. You can just do a visa run to Japan.
If you've never had an E2 before, then you may have to go home for the interview. BUT you might be able to get it in Japan. You are SUPPOSED to go for an interview in your home country, but a lot of people (since that law came in) have gotten their first E2 in Japan. If you have the visa issuance number, then have a Korean friend/colleague call the Korean Embassy and Consulates (Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka) in Japan to ask each one if you can get your visa issued there. If one says yes, then get on the next plane to Japan. |
