So there is a new principal at the school and she is a full on nutter. The second she got here she has been picking at every tiny detail that she doesn't like of the afterschool program that I work for. Every few days it is something new. At first the kids were too noisey outside. Fixed that. Then she said she wanted the classes to only start after all the kids finish not just the first graders. Two days later she saids she wants the classes to finish when school finishes. Co-teacher said it is probably because my company didn't pay her bribe money.
Anyway from all the stress. My co-teacher quit and she said if they reduce the classes the company might cancel the program. In which case my job would dissapear.
What are my rights here? I still have another 8 months on this contract? But I don't want to be moved to another school further from my home. Should I just take pay upto when I finished working and move on? Or can I squeeze anything out of them? |

Problem lies in the fact that even though your PS may have sponsored your E2 you actually don't work for them; you for for some hakwon who has contracted to provide the A/S program.
You are in a kind of limbo.. the labor board can assist you against your employer (the contractor) but the school has limited obligations as your sponsor under immigration law and NONE under labor law.
Your employer can make you change locations (by filing some paperwork at immigration and amending your ARC). You don't have much say in the matter other than to take it or quit.
If you quit you will lose most of your options against your employer.
If you have been working for less than 6 months your rights under labor law are further limited.
2 choices really:
a) stick it out and see what happens. As long as you have a place to live and are still getting paid- none the worse for wear.
b) quit and find something new. This may entail a new visa complete with the usual paperwork nightmare.

I would recommend staying in good graces with your A/S program supervisor/manager/whomever you have the most contact with, you'll need a reference letter from them detailing why you were unable to finish the contract (ie it ain't your fault) because any interveiws you have in the future are going to inquire.
The same type of crap happened to me last year (though I was a lot further into my contract)
Basic you're @#$% up the creep without a paddle.
I would press your A/S company for an exact date when you'll be out of a job and start applying for new jobs with that as a possible startdate, also get a letter of release from your school so if you get a new job you can just transfer your E2 visa instead of needing to get a new one (assuming you're on an E2 visa). |

I should have mentioned I have an F-2. So I can walk away without any issues. K-Teacher has already found greener pastures. It is further away but she is getting an extra 500 a month for the same hours with a different company.
Are reference letters important these days? Before I just said I worked for X company and they said OOOo aahhhhh. Then that was it. |

On an F2 so you are free to do what you want in terms of a job.
Less than 6 months with this employer so no protection from the labor office.
Time to cut your losses and just move on.
Let the contractor worry about where the crap falls and no, you don't need to worry about using them as a reference. |
