I just finished watching episode 13 and all I can say is that it didn't disappoint...what an ending!

I know this show isn't for some people because of the gore but the characters that developed were quite interesting (Varro, The German brothers, Illythia, Batiatus, Crixus etc etc)

Anyone else watch this show???? What did you think of episode 13???

The show is ok. I prefer Rome, though. While there are some interesting characters, and the plot is decent, the show seems a bit pornographic. The nudity and violence doesn't offend me, but it seems to be there just because it can. Every arena scene has topless women, and they use blood wipes for scene transitions.

Spartacus is like candy. I don't really get anything nutritious out of it, but it's still enjoyable to eat. You just don't want to eat too much, though.

The gore isn't really that bad because it's so unrealistic. Maye I downloaded a rough cut or something, but the gore animation is terrible. It looks like something out of an old mortal kombat game or something.

I'll agree with both of the above posts. The gore is kinda cheesy and a lot of the soft core porn/nudity seems to just be there because it can. However, I was surprised at the interesting characters that developed and the acting involved. John Hannah as Batiatus did a pretty good job. Whitfield is also not bad either. I cant wait for the next season.

I agree with the part about the characters, but I'm not too optimistic about season two because

SPOILER ALERT:

They killed off all the good actors in ep. 13

I heard season two has been delayed indefinitely, due the lead characters cancer. He has Lymphoma or something, however it is meant to be fully treatable tho and he is not considered to be in any real danger.

There is talk of a prequel.

I mean they try to keep it as real as possible for that time..
so the BLOOD was real! and the sex and nudity was real..
so why not show it like it was..
sure the gore is hardcore and the special effects obviously don't look real but its better than spending millions of dollars on props when you can get a better effect with post production, computers etc.. I mean its like a video game so you just imagine it.. I mean heads being cut off and stuff is awesome.. sad part is.. ITS BASED ON FACT!! savage times those were..

ROME.. yes, was also a great show... less graphic violence, better acting in my opinion and better character driven script.. but spartacus is more hardcore gladiator. not politics!

Sad that VARO had to die like that.. he would have been a good character to of evolved in season 2..

yes, I heard season 2 might not be made, but it probably will be.. I mean cancer is a killer but patients can still function for a couple years before its too late.

I also heard a prequel is in the works.. but who knows...

prequel is kind of stupid because we already know the fate of the characters and stuff, we all want to see what happens next!
they could just move the script towards to the romans and follow 13 episodes of that and build up there side of the story, and then season 3 they can come together...

I understand this, but there's a difference between an accurate historical depiction and cutting to a woman flashing her breasts during every single fight. Yes, there was lots of sex and violence in ancient Rome, but at some point it gets a bit gratuitous.

Watched the first episode of this but turned it off about halfway through. Whereas Rome was driven by genuinely great acting and scripts, Spartacus has only toned bodies and breast flashing to recommend it as far as I can see. Pure drivel.

I'm loving this show. The boobies and gore not withstanding, the number of Kiwis is heartening. Lucy Lawless and Craig Parker (also Manu Bennett but he isn't really a Kiwi, having left the shores aged less than 1 years old. Or so wikipedia tells me( Dwayne "The RocK" Johnson also lived in NZ for a time, being of Samoan heritage))

I didn't realise it had such a NZ presence until I started noticing all the Maori extras. At least two of the gladiators have been Maori plus one of the women slaves looks like she might be at least part Maori. (The one who is sent to tempt Spartacus in ep9).

Michael Hurst who played Iolaus on both Xena and Hercules, directs a few of the episodes, is also a Kiwi.

Seeing Lucy Lawless's boobs has always been a dream of mine. I was never a fan of Xena, but I've always been a fan of the lady herself.

The violence and T&A is a bit much but the acting and story gets pretty good. Even the creators said the pilot episode was quite marginal/poor at best when they released it. By episode 3/4 It gets much better in my opinion so give it a shot!

Also mad respect to the Kiwis. I didn't realize you guys had so many talented actors. Craig Parker is a certified badass. I totally recognized him too as Haldir from LOTR.

I hope Chris Whitfield gets better. That kind of cancer is apparently the deadliest. My best friend's dad got it when he was 50 (healthy as an ox up until then) and passed away 2 years later.

Yawn. 300 meets Gladiator, right down to the script and slow-mo fights; an unadulterated rip-off is low and can't hold water. The T&A is indicative of the flimsiness of the concept, direction and the plagiarized ideas contained within.

I can't believe everyone lambasting the gore and T&A!
You guys do realize that they are the sole reason the TV show exists right?
And that's what makes the show awesome.

seriously, this show is like a Krispy Kreme donut. You buy it for the melty sugar, but the little bit of dough (ie. the story) isn't that bad itself.

All in all, I never knew about the episode schedule or anything like that. It was just a guilty pleasure to pass the time between episodes of V or Justified.

Now someone tell me when Sons of Anarchy is back on the air!
