Awhile back I posted that I had posted a rumour that SMOE was not going to hire NSETs for August 2010... Turns out that it's not quite as black and white as that...
Rumour has it that EPIK will be doing half of the hiring for SMOE this Summer... Somewhere around 300 teachers. They'll do this through the usual method of using recruiters to weed out the applicants, etc. etc. etc...
SMOE, on the other hand, will be doing the other half of the hiring itself... Without recruiters... From what I was told that went on at a meeting the other day with some NSET head teachers from various districts and levels, SMOE will be asking NSETs to collect applications for them (from friends I guess?) and submit them to their local head NSET (I don't even know who mine is... lol) who will weed out the pack and submit the applications to SMOE HQ and the Great and Powerful certain someone whose initials may or may not be J.P...
(Who told people that he was going to work for the American embassy in two weeks... Guess that sort of didn't work out... Good call embassy, LOL)
Just wanted to share what I had heard through the grapevine... Feel free to comment if you know/speculate/are bored at work more than me |

Ha, that sounds like an asinine plan. They trying to save some cash on the recruiters? I would like some money if I am doing the same work as a recruiter!
JP said he was going to work for the embassy? Doing what, stapling extra pages onto people's passports? How on earth did he get that job at SMOE anyways? There must be a million gyopos out there more qualified and diligent than him. |

A friend is friends with him on Facebook... Apparently he was braging about his embassy position in March, lol...
And I agree... Anyone who has to have 2 other people hired to help him with his job (Matt and Rachel) should definatly be up for replacement... |

I got wind of this new hiring situation as well.
Of interest on the EPIK application form there is a bonus mentioned for a teacher referring a person who is hired by EPIK or SMOE. Seems like SMOE is working on a theory of getting existing teachers to get the 500 000 won bonus for bringing in freinds etc and of course cutting out the recruiters.
This teacher hire bonus is never paid out if a recruiter is used in the middle
This very obvious cost cutting service for SMOE is no different to what EPIK is presently doing by encouraging applicants to apply directly to the website and giving them preference in response.
Then also contracting many more EPIK agents who pay the advertising and bring in the interest in EPIK . I think each year 5 EPIK agents must drop off (the worst performing on numbers) and 5 new agetns get a chance to recruit for EPIK.
Makes you wonder if the NETs who bring in friends will have to refund the 500 000 won they get if the new teacher leaves before 9 months. EPIK agents have to do this.
If the teacher does a runner before 6 months and does not pay back the airticket the unlucky NETs may have to pay this as well (as EPIK agents have to now do).
Maybe the next stage is making the NETs go to the airport to collect the new teacher for SMOE ?? |

If its the guy i think your talking about, who is ex military? It might be something to do with them paying him less money than I make as a teacher, with less holiday etc. His job isn't very good. |
