My boyfriend is moving to Seoul and working as ESL teacher in July 2010. I'm Indonesian, currently a teacher in Jakarta with a B.A degree. I desparetly want to be with him and to be in Korea. However, Indonesian citizens can only be granted a C-3 tourist visa for 30 days. I would like to be employed in Korea and very willing to work in any trade or company. Can anyone offer any advice (i'm fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia) or know of any sponsoring companies? Also, any other ideas regarding the visa situation will be fully appriciated.

Many thanks,
tinatooney

You can't get a teaching job. You also can't get a job in Korea unless it's for a position a Korean can't fill. You're basically SOL, unless you want a 3-D job (which you won't).

Well, I guess the tough question you have to ask yourself is why he is willing to move away when you clearly don't want him to.

If he's not just running away from the relationship, then I would consider going to Korea and looking for a job with the 30 day visa. Unfortunately, the kind of jobs you may be able to qualify for may be rarely advertised outside of Korea. You can stay with him and start hitting the pavement.

Lastly, proofread everything you post. Some guys here like to roast posters who say that they are fluent but make many mistakes.

Good luck!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the truth is that unless you get married you have just about "0" chance of coming to Korea on anything other than a C3.

Your degree is not high enough for the professions and your nationality is not approved for anything other than factory worker or the professions..

Sorry.

There are a lot of Indonesians in Suwon working as laborers and factory workers. You might not enjoy the work that much but it will pay a lot better than what you can earn in Jarkarta. Most of the guys that I have met make an average of 800,000-1,000,000 won a month. Still not bad, if you share an apartment with your BF. The hours suck though.

As stated above, getting married would make it easier for you.

A factory job is the best you can hope for. Indonesians and people of color face a lot of hardship and discrimination in Korea. If you are willing to put up with that then I would go for it. Best of luck to you. I wonder why a woman would run half way across the world for a man who is running away from her.

Thank you for all the replies guys.. Smile I really appreciate it.. Well, the thing is my boyfriend is not trying to run away from me... He's been looking for jobs in Indonesia, but he couldn't get one. His Visa and Kitas are going to expired soon. He has to leave the country. That's why he wants to move to south korea. And, he also had a teaching experience there too.. He wants me to go with him, but my boyfriend and i don't know about visa procedure and job opportunity for me. That's why we wrote questions in any south korean forums.

I was wondering about the factory job... Does anyone know where i can get information about that job? Or does anyone have any info about P/F time job that suitable for me (restaurant, cafe, etc)? If you do, please don't feel hesitant to PM me to [email protected].
Any information will be really appreciated!

Regards,
teena Smile

Oh dear Crying or Very sad

I don't think you understood our responses (that was my hubby responding to you above btw).

I'm pretty sure the people in this thread were recommending that you DO NOT work in Korea since you won't be able to teach English. You will basically be getting a horrible factory job. In other words, do NOT go!

Your BF couldn't get a job in Indonesia? Shocked

Some universities are providing scholarships to foreigners.
I know Inha Universty does this for foreigners studying Korean Language, and for some graduate programs.

A number of Korean Univesities give scholarships to foreigners in graduate programs. There is also a government program that provides scholarships to students from various countries and there is a quota for the number of students accepted from each country.

My mom was born in Jakarta and my dad in Sukabumi (although they don't have any Indo blood). I sure do miss nasi kuning, sate, rendang, gado gado, kueh lapis, and all that other stuff here in Korea Sad

Best of luck to you! Did you study in an international school or something? Your English seems fairly natural.
