I got 100mbps internet connection. All my speed tests showed around 20mpbs.

So, after long hours of frustration, I come to find out that normal $50 routers will only route about 20-30mbps from the WAN to the LAN.

Run a speed test with your computer connected to the Router. Run another one with the Ethernet going from the modem directly into your computer. If your speed goes up a lot, then your router is the weakest link.

I just ordered a D-Link DIR-825 Gigabit Router. Has good reviews. Around 120,000w. Hopefully, this router will be able to properly route 100mbps so that all my computers can utilize the speed.

Can you give us any numbers? As in speeds you were hitting before and after? I'm all about maxing out my speed (I am paying for the services after all), but I just bought cubanlord's computer and let's just say my wallet is butthurt.

The speeds for having my computer hooked directly to the model is about 95mbps.

With my old DIR-300 piece of crap router (with the custom DD-WRT firmware) the speeds were at 25-35mbps.

With the new DIR-825 I get ~93 mbps. All of this is through a wired connection. I don't use the wireless for anything brandwidth intensive so I don't know how good the router is over wireless.

Hope that helps.

Wow... I guess I'll be dropping some cash soon. Thanks for the tip. I have a pretty crappy router. That definitely helps.

It's considerably more on Gmarket (at least when I did a search) than 120k. Where did you buy yours from?

I've got a DIR-600 and my speeds seem to be somewhat limited.

On the KT speed test I'm getting 50-55Mb/s which is about what the wifi is rated for. However, my PC is plugged into the router directly (no wifi) is this slowing me down?

Is there anyway to open the throttle with the custom firmware (DDR)? I have it installed already.

No, its a hardware issue. Not many places in the world have 100mbps internet. Most places (like the USA) have like 10-30mbps internet so a regular router works just fine.

Is your router given to you by KT or did you get it separately? If its a KT router you can't do much about the speed. If you got it separately then you could always upgrade.

Seem the DD-WRT was slowing me down...

I did a D-Link firmware upgrade and now I flying at 70Mb/s in the middle of the afternoon. I've broke the wifi threshold, so I don't think I'm limited by the wifi limits anymore. I guess I'm at full 100Mb/s now.

I think it was just that DD-WRT...it's kinda shite. My router never worked well with it (and always indicated "yellow")...but at least it was in English!

Also, I checked my D-link "System Check" and it says my connection is 100mb/s full duplex and everything is green lights. I guess no problems here with my $30 router. Thankfully...you had me all freaked out that I'd have to download my goodies at a max of 6.2MB/s rather than 9MB/s! Wink

BTW: I don't mean to contradict you pkang and I appreciate you bringing this to light for me. My router was if fact slowing me down a lot; it just wasn't a hw issue. I probably would have delayed fixing it indefinitely if it wasn't for your post. Thanks. Smile

Interesting... I wonder if my DD-WRT firmware was also causing a bottle-up.

When I was doing research, a lot of places said that cheapo routers couldn't route that much traffic.

Anyways, I'm not going to second guess my purchase. The gigabit ports are more than worth the extra money.

Glad you found a solution to your problem without spending a lot of money. I hope others who read this thread will try and update their router to the latest firmware. If that doesn't improve speeds then try out a better quality router.

On second thought, I realized that I had a massive mental fart. For some reason I have no idea why, I actually thought you were downloading files at 93mbps. LOL. Not enough sleep, I guess.

On my IP Time router, I got a speedtest rating of 92mbps down.

8MB. My new place gets nothing Like that though. Maybe 1 or 2 MB for one torrent. Depends on your neighborhood, maybe.
