|
|
Hi, i'm having a bit of trouble working out how to get a police check in the UK... Does this have to be an official CRB check or can you just ask local police to give you some knid of signed document?
The problem is an individual can't request a CRB on themself....the employer has to request it, which would mean i couldnt get one till i accepted a job and i think the employer has to be UK based anyway...? can anyone offer clarification or help me?
thanks........... |

It's very easy to get a disclosure scotland check, and it covers the entire UK. Just enter your details on the online application, then pay for it and in 5 days time it will be posted through your letterbox |

Basic (assuming you are after a teaching job. If not, then no idea). |

When you get the CRB, can it be used time and time again or does it lapse when applying for new teaching work in Korea? Can you get a CRB Check in Korea? Just curious. |

get the basic. it's all you need for immigration.
ordered mine about a month ago, takes about 1-2 weeks to come through. they're pretty decent about it, mine would've been quicker but i forgot to write something on one of the bits.
costs 23 i think. it's valid for 6 months. |

IMPORTANT INFO for UK applicants about legalising (apostille) CRB checks:
National identification Certificates, Association of Chief Police Officer certificates and Disclosure documents
Original disclosure documents must be signed by a member of the Criminal Records Bureau or a practising UK solicitor or notary public before they can be legalised. We cannot legalise photocopies of these documents under any circumstances.
Please visit our website at www.fco.gov.uk and select legalisation from the quick links, then look under documents we can legalise for further details regarding legalising your document. |

Really?? I'd been wondering if I'd need to legalise my Garda Siochana background check here in Ireland. I thought it would be odd that a State document would need a privately practising solicitor to certify it as genuine before the Department of Foreign Affairs would stamp an apostille on it.
Turns out the DFA shared my opinion because they didn't look for legalisation
EDIT: Ah... sorry they talk about photocopies there. Same rules so |

yeah, it's annoying the original Disclosure doc has to be notarised/signed before FCO legalisation, surely it should be 'official' enough by itself- but stupidly it is bears no osfficial seal, signature or stamp
oh well!
...just another hoop to jump thru and another fee to pay |

That's very odd alright. Mine has the district Superintendent's signature and a stamp and the date... and it's on headed paper. That seemed to be sufficient proof of authenticity for the mandarins. |

ARGH! can anyone help? i seem to be caught in a vicious circle....
FCO will not legalise (apostille) my CRC check because it has no official signature/seal/stamp from a UK official on it.
They say i must get it certified as genuine by a solicitor. BUT solicitor will not do this as it as no official signature/seal/stamp from a UK official on it. (!)
Why does one offical govt.-affiliated agency issue a document that is not recognised by another govt. agency!?
Any UK teachers had experience of this?
thanks. |

I got my CRC check from Disclosue Scotland. When I ordered it (for 23) I e-mailed them asking to add a notarisation for the FCO. A day later they confirmed my request. I received the CRC yesterday (it arrived in just over a week) and sure enough it has a stamp and signature from the 'head of operations' at Disclosure Scotland. |
