A friend recently told me about 3Guys1Hammer, a 4-minute video (filmed by 3 young Ukrainians) that shows them murdering a 48-year-old man. I haven't seen the video, but from the Wikipedia article, and from what I've read online, "gruesome" doesn't even begin to describe it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dnepropetrovsk_maniacs

What I want to know is, what happened to the world where we can compare a horrific murder filmed by three psychopaths to coprophagia (as depicted in the also disturbing 2Girls1Cup)?

Do you find that this is even a problem or an issue worth talking about or being upset/worried about?

Your gif sums up how I feel about this entire thing. I just want to quit Earth, right about now.

Humanity at its worst.

Now humanity at its best:

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/afr/benjamin_zander_on_music_and_passion.html

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=To-XOPgaGsQ

But all this is just anecdotal, and data isn't the plural of anecdote. Luckily the overall data shows a continuous improvement:

http://www.ted.com/talks/steven_pinker_on_the_myth_of_violence.html

It's akin to a growing forest. Trees that are cut down make a huge racket and draw a lot of attention, but the overall growth surpasses the number of trees that fall, and thus the forest is growing larger by the day even if it's difficult to keep in mind because the racket of even a single falling tree is so great.

Ukrainian psychos and people that eat $hit?

They exist, apparently, but what exactly would you like to discuss about the fact?

Sure, it's an issue worth talking about, and even in my estimation worth being upset about. I agree with Mithridates, though, that over time things are getting better rather than worse. This kind of behavior -- specifically, the trivialization of random strangers suffering -- has always existed in a fair portion of the human population. It might be particularly visible at this point in history due to modern technology, but that doesn't mean it's not on the decline.

I'm disgusted that this happened, and I'm disgusted that some people are willing to make a mockery of it and treat it as entertainment, but I'm heartened that people are eager to stand up and decry it too.

Oh, I see, it's the sensationalism we're supposed to be worried about. Yeah, I can see that there might be some copy-cat actors looking to emulate these rejects, but I think society at large will deal with them over time.

It brings to mind the Colombine shooters and how they are generally considered to have been losers who accomplished nothing besides the taking of innocent lives.

Time marches onward.

I did not get that from his comment. We should be worried about the murder, that's it.

Great, now I'm completely lost as to what is supposed to be the cause of hysteria.

I don't consider being upset about murder "hysteria." Sounds pretty damn appropriate to me.

I know people do terrible things, and that is something to reflect on. But I'm more worried about people who find joy in people who do terrible things. Or...I don't know how to word this--why is this a joke "on the internet"?

That's what I want to figure out.
