I bought a 42 inch LG X-Canvas LCD HDTV badass mother, and I connected it to my GPU (ATI Radeon HD4850) via a DVI-HDMI cable, but the picture isn't very sharp. I have no idea why because my school's PCs are connected to similar TVs and the output is perfect.
Anyone care to shed some light on this? |

| Try fiddling around with the screen resolution settings. Right click on the desk top>properties>settings. There should be a slider to change the pixels, or some such. |

| What I'm trying to do is have the same display on both screens at different resolutions, but it's just not happening for me. I guess it might be the video card itself. |

I do not believe it is possible to have the same display at different resolutions. You are limited to mirroring (same display, same resolution) or extended desktop (different display). |

| Are you spanning it, or cloning the display? Also make sure your TV is set to 1080p or whatever is the highest. |

I have one 22 inch monitor (1680x1050) and the big TV which is at a higher resolution. I tried cloning it but the TV output looks a little undefined with blurry text. I basically want to play PC games and watch movies on the big boy, but I just can't get it to look right.
So, maybe it's the TV that needs adjusting. It has 1080p display but I haven't tried adjusting it. I'll give that a bash. |

The fuzziness issue is caused by your video card sending a signal that is not the native resolution of the TV to the TV. IE, your TV has a native resolution of 1920x1080 and your video card is outputting 1280x720.
Fiddle around in the settings for your graphics card and make sure your TV is properly detected and that you're sending it a signal of 1920x1080. |

| When my TV is detected, the computer automatically detects and sets the correct resolution 1920x1080. However, the fonts look really ragged and the only way to smooth them is to lower the resolution. |

Ok, the new theory is that your TV is not "Full HD" and merely "HD". If that's not it, I throw in the towel because I have no idea. |

I think it must be an issue with the video card. I plugged in my Macbook (which uses NVIDIA), and I could select 1080p or 1080i resolution for the TV.]
This could be an excuse to upgrade my card! |
