Visa on arrival will save you at least 20% over getting a same one at embassy.
There will be no consulate fee, time fee as well as no transportation fee to visit the Vietnam embassy. There will be no postage fee as everything is done over email.
There are two kinds of fee for both Visa on arrival (pick up at the airport) and Visa code (pick up at the Embassy): service fee and stamping fee.
The service fee will be paid us online in USD through OnePay. This service fee will be used to progress your visa approval letter.
Kinds of visa Service fee/pax (USD)
Visa on arrival/code 1 month single $21
Visa on arrival/code 1 month multiple $26
Visa on arrival/code 3 months single $35
Visa on arrival/code 3 months multiple $40
NORMAL processing service fee: 2-3 working days.
URGENT processing service fee: 1 working day (plus 10 USD/pax).
The stamping fee
Vietnam Visa online: You will pay this stamping fee at the Vietnam airport to get your passport stamped. Your approval letter will be the legal evidence to show the airport Officer that you are allowed to legally enter Vietnam by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
Visa code: You will pay this fee directly at the Vietnam Embassy in your country to get your passport stamped. This fee will be different from country to country.
Kinds of visa on arrival Stamping fee/pax (USD)
1 month single $25
1 month multiple $50
3 months single $25
3 months multiple $50 |

I'd like to go to Vietnam, but I won't for the simple fact that they gouge Americans on the visa so much. Plenty of other places to visit... |

And just hope that the visa offices aren't closed for lunar new year or something.
While this is a good service, Vietnam has had some serious hiccups with this service. 1 friend and 1 family member out of a group set to join us in Feb were denied boarding because they did not have in-passport visas during the New Year celebration. All offices were closed. They were not allowed to board until two days later, when they re-opened.
The woman running our hotel told us about 1 man who was allowed to board, got all the way there, was handed his luggage, and told to leave on his own dime because of visa issues.

Really? I didn't pay any more than my Aussie husband or my Canadian friend. I was jealous of the Swedes in our party...no visa needed! |

Actually, it does exist, just not a consistently good service. Also, to note: the woman who rant he place where we stayed in February said that the 3 month visa was being phased out, which would cause issues for the guys who taught windsurfing on the beach near that hotel.
reactionary, it sounds like you were referring to China, where the visa for americans is something like triple most other countries. |

What didn't exist in January? VOA? Sorry, but it's been in existence for several years. Been going there on a regular basis for 5 years. But if you're in Sihanoukville, Cambodia you can get a 6 month multiple at the moment. Forgot the price though but can be in an out of the office in 15 minutes. |

Go here:
http://www.myvietnamvisa.com/apply.html
Used this service thrice so far and they are reliable and efficient. They will send you Approval letter via email.
1. Fill out the Visa application
2. Submit payment
3. Wait until they send your letter within 7 days (typically 2-3)
4. Print off the letter
5. On arrival in Vietnam at the airport go to immigration and give them your letter. They will have a record of it and your Visa will be issued within 30 minutes.
6. on ya go! |

Hi Reactionary,
It is not. The Vietnam Gov charges the application fee equally for all nationalities. All citizens are applied $21 except some difficult nationalities such as Turkey, jamaica, Kenya... due to the diplomatic policy between two countries. American is welcomed...

Agree, mmstyle
It does exits but may be some travel agencies do not take care of their clients seriously. Tourists should have a visa pre-approval letter and a visa on arrival formin advanced. They will fill information and glue photos on that form. At VN airport, they just give it to the Immigration Officer without spending time filling it... |
