Could some of you that have been to Busan tell me about the Gaeguem area west of downtown. I want to be near some other foreign teachers, ammenities and nightlife and not in a sleepy community. |

I live in busan, the area you ask about is close to a great and lively area called Dongnae and not too far from the PNU area that seems to have a fair few westerners. Also close on the subway to a number of other good areas like Seomyeon.
Thumbs up from me |

Gaegum is right next to Somyeon.
It is a mostly residential area but has decent restaurants.
It is a decent place to live. There many hakwons and schools there so there are bound to be a fair number of foreigners.
It is that near to dongnea however nor to PNU but you can get there in reasonable time with the subway (a quick line change at Somyeon will do the trick). |

How easy is it to get around Busan on public transport?. Is there any area that you shouldn't ever want to live due to being 'isolated'? |

Public transport in Busan is just fine. Saha-Gu is a little bit far from everything else, but even then you're still connected.
As for Gaeguem, it's fine. As another poster already said, it's not exactly close to Dongnae or PNU as somebody else said, but both areas are accessible. Mind you, living right beside Seomyeon, I'm not sure why you'd need to go off to either of those areas with any degree of regularity anyway. There is plenty to do withing a 3 dollar cab ride of Gaeguem. It's a good spot.
If you share which school you're looking at, perhaps I (an others) could help you out some more? |
