I just called Apostille Pros http://www.apostillepros.com

They told me it would cost $52 and to apostille $175, if I do an in person scan for Michigan. After that it is a 10 day process. Sounds good, but I am in China, so I would need to send in my fingerprints, and there is a 3-4 month waiting period on this.

Does this sound right to you? It seems like my only option is to go back to the US to get this scan, but if I do that, I might as well go back to Michigan and not deal with Apostille Pros.

Does anyone know a way to get the criminal background check out of the US quicker than a 3-4 month waiting period? I am hoping to find a way to do this in less than a month. Otherwise, I will have to fly back to the US just to get a stupid check which says while I was teaching in Korea for the past 2.5 months I didn't commit any crimers in the US.

Bizarre crap, but believe me folks, it is worse over here in Shanghai. They won't even help you get a place to live over here unless you are willing to work for 1.3 million won per month and teach 25+ hours, stay at the school for a total of 40 hours and attend these meetings on weekends.

Option #1: The way to do it is take your fingerprints on a FD-258 card in china (or korea, vietnam, another country etc) and send it to an agency like Apostille Pros and they can obtain a FBI background check for you, notarize and apostille it. Then they send it to you internationally. It was done in a matter of 1-2 weeks. But now in the U.S., the FBI background checks takes 13 weeks, approx. 3 months. There's no way anyone can wait that long. It's the U.S. problem.

Option #2: The state background check, you can do a live scan. But your problem is you have to be in the U.S. to take the fingerprints. State background checks are done in the states where you lived; live scan facility and police stations (apostille places have the live scan machine as well).

---->In your case, in Michigan, I don't think they obtain background checks through live scan (fingerprinting). So you're in luck! You don't have to come back to the U.S. You can do everything online according to this site (http://apps.michigan.gov/ICHAT/Home.aspx).

Get the background check clearance paper and forward it to Apostille Pros www.apostillepros.com since you're in China; they can obtain your apostille in California or Michigan and you're set. You can apostille in any state because the U.S is part of the Hague Convention, so all states are recognized in terms of the Hague Convention. But you have to see if the iChat Michigan background check works. If you don't have computer access, have someone do it for you on your behalf. According to the site anyone can run the background check.

That's all I know... just sharing knowledge. Good luck!

Where on earth are you finding a Korean job that only pays W1.3? This forum has hundreds of jobs that pay almost double that WITH housing etc.
