|
|
I usually rent a DVD during the week and rip and burn it to watch on the weekend
I use DVDFab and it works no problem
But I ripped Sherlock Holmes yesterday and instead of ripping it to a size small enough to fit on a blank dvd as usual, the rip ended up being bigger no matter what i tried.
Is this some new trick or what?
I now have to transcode it with Nero which takes ages
Anyone know how to fix such a problem? |

The only thing I can think of is that the Sherlock Holmes video is a DVD9 (up to 8.5GB) whereas the others have been DVD5s (up to 4.7GB).
It's strange, though, that the place you rent from usually has DVD5s, most if not all retail DVDs are DVD9s.
If this is the reason the only thing you can do is use a program to shrink it (DVD Shrink is what I use, but I think there are better ones) to a DVD5. |

Thanks for the reply,
How long does it take normally when you use dvd shrink?
Nero took 3 hours!
I think the size of the "main movie" on the dvd was about 5gb which is about normal compared to other dvd's i ripped...i am not sure now but it was definitely not an abnormal size.
DVDfab even indicated that it would shrink it to under 4.3gb like it usually does but this time the resulting size was 4.69gb.
It makes me think it is some new trick they are using. |

DVD Shrink takes about 1 minute to read the file/s, a couple of minutes to play around if you want to remove extras or audio tracks to increase the quality, between 3 and 10 minutes to process depending on compression, usually about 5. Then it's ready to burn. |

Thanks a lot for the rec
It (DVDShrink) works great, like you said
Just one thing I can't figure out...
Can I choose the exact new size (output size)?
The DVDShrink i got just have a 0-100% slide thingy that one uses to determine the output size
Is there a more exact way?
I ended up with a size of about 2.5gb from the original 4.7gb
EDIT: Found the answer |
