Arizona Asks the Federal Government for Help Regarding New Law.

Quote:
The Arizona agency tasked with training 15,000 law officers to enforce the state's controversial new illegal immigration law has asked federal authorities for assistance, but administration officials say it is unclear whether the government will help.

Lyle Mann, executive director of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board, says federal assistance is "critical" to what he describes as an unprecedented effort to prepare officers as soon as this summer to enforce the law, which gives local police authority to identify and arrest illegal immigrants.

"Participation by federal authorities is critical in ascertaining how to implement a standard of enforcement," says Mann, who made the request through the Department of Homeland Security's division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

President Obama, however, has ordered a Justice Department review of the measure's civil rights implications.

"That review," DHS spokesman Matthew Chandler says, "will inform the government's actions."

Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., has urged the Obama administration "not to cooperate with the state of Arizona in its implementation and execution." In an April 23 letter to Obama, he called the law a "serious overstep of state authority in federal issues."

The legislation, signed Friday by Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, requires police to "determine the immigration status of a person during any legitimate contact made by an official or agency of the state if reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the U.S." There are an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants in Arizona, state records show.

Brewer and other supporters, including Joe Arpaio, sheriff of metro Phoenix's sprawling Maricopa County, say the measure provides another tool to counter illegal immigration.

Opponents, including Democrat Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, say the law is "racist" and encourages racial profiling.

The measure takes effect 90 days after the state Legislature adjourns. With adjournment perhaps a week away, Mann says he may have to develop a curriculum and train all of the state's 15,000 police, sheriff's deputies, highway patrol officers and investigators by Aug. 1.

"Ninety days (to train officers) may be asking the impossible," says Democrat Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, a member of the training board and critic of the law. "There are a huge number of very serious questions to be answered here, and 90 days is laughable."

In short, they can't think of any way to enforce this law without illegally racially profiling people, so they're asking the Federal Government to do it for them.

The most irritating thing about this law is that Arizona all ready has a law on the books that makes it illegal to hire illegal immigrants; employers must check their employees citizenship before hiring them. If that law were to be effectively enforced, any problem with illegal immigrants would go away. The fact that they make an entirely new law instead of vigorously enforcing the previous one says a lot about their intentions, which actually have very little with actually stopping employers from hiring illegal immigrants, and everything to do with political showmanship.

For U.S. Federal stats (the FBI reports) Hispanics (non-black) are counted as white when compililing "hate crime" offender data, but as Hispanic when compiling the victim data. Huh, why would they do that? Since this is a PC hot potato, I'm not sure if the FEDs still disclose the data, but they did until 2005 or so. The actual stats used to be available from FBI.gov, but I looked earlier and apparently this data has been deleted

Yes, that's right. When a white attacks a Hispanic it is a white on Hispanic crime. When a Hispanic attacks a white, it is a white on white crime. When a Hispanic attacks a black (as happens very often in LA, where there has been ethnic cleansing of blacks by Mexican gangs) it is a white on black crime.

They appear to want the Feds to train 15,000 police officers to do this kind of thing within 90 days.

That ain't gonna happen.

Handel at KFI in Los Angeles comments on how Mexico treats illegal immigrants from Guatemala and other central american countries

http://www.kfi640.com/common/podcast/single_page.html?podcast=BillHandel

I grew up in the SW U.S. and can tell you that all of these illegal Mexicans are not "just here to do jobs Americans won't" do. A significant number are members of La Raza "The Race" whose motto is "Por La Raza todo fuera de La Raza nada" For the Race everything, outside the Race, nothing. The underlying agenda for many-not all, is reconquista- that is taking back territory (AZ,CA,NM,TX & parts of NV, CO) relinquished with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. it's now commonly referred to as "AZTLAN." http://www.mayorno.com/WhoIsMecha.html
Also, the media won't cover the "Plan of San Diego." Mexicans put the KKK to shame.

But the media won't cover that.

Do these people really make a considered decision to go to the SW USA for the purposes of engaging in a political reconquest? Or is it more that they go for economic reasons, and just sort of adopt this jingoistic ideology in a pseduo-commited way, because if fulfills their need for a sense of larger purpose and cultural cohesion?

Another way of phrasing this: if it were announced next week that there were now sufficient numbers of American citizens willing to do all the jobs that Mexican migrants are now doing, and hence no more jobs for the migrants, would significant numbers of Mexicans still pour over the border just to further the Reconquista?

Good point. I think illegal immigration is one of those things kind of like illegal drugs. Lots of people will smoke a joint after work or do a line at a party, but still support, tacitly or openly, the jailing of drug dealers and hardcore users. If they were really serious about cracking down on drugs, they would be demanding that the cops apply the same tactics to their own suburban weekend-hippie barbecues that are applied to the smugglers who bring in the drugs that are consummed at those gatherings.
