question:
at the end of a one year contract the boss asks you (or you ask the boss) to work an extra month or two...boss says no problem...visa can be extended...is this true? can you extend an E-2 visa (or can your boss) for just a couple of months and not a whole other year? |

I do not think you will have much trouble. Besides maybe your plane ticket. If it was two way count it gone (you may be able to get a refund).
Go to the Immigration office to get an extension. Sometimes they may just accept "I want to stay a month more" other times they will want paper work. Meaning a contract - So take you old contract update and sign. But I think maybe the immigration might only accept 6 month or 1 year renewel contracts.
Another point is make sure you get your severence pay that includes an months over you work. So if you work 2 more months you should get 1/6 of a full years severence pay.
Good Luck.

...last December, I signed on at my school for a second year but couldn't get a one year renewal as my passport wasn't good that long. I went to the Ujengboo Immigration office with my boss and they stamped it as extended for two months (up to the day my passport expired). They said to come back when I had my new passport. Oddly though, they didn't ask for a new contract or anything. They just stamped it as extended and made a notation on my AR card after I filled out an application form. Hope this helps. |

I want to add three months on the end of my contract without leaving the country to process a work visa. Is it possible to get an extension?
Anyone had experience doing such a thing recently? |

If you're extending with the same E-2 sponsor, you don't have to leave the country. The extension should be no problem as long as your boss agrees and you right the correct dates on the form. |

Make DEAD sure that you get stamps or notes written on either your passport or your ARC. Otherwise, it's cool. |

Extend away. Check with your local immigration office and check what you need to facilitate the extension. When we resigned with our old boss, it was a copy of the contarct and they updated our ARC, an extension with another teacher was as simple as an updated departure on his ARC and a fee. |

Yeah, should be no problem. I did it before. From what I remember, (this was a year ago) I took my Alien Registration Card to the immigration office along with the contract extension. They took my card and wrote in black ink, the extension date on the back bottom portion of the card. the bottom portion on the back of the. Nothing was touched on my passport.
It was a very simple process. |

I did it last year. I needed to show my fight ticket out of Korea and the school had to do some paper work and I think the cost was 30000 paid by the school. |

Make sure you do it with plenty of advance notice, though, if you're going to keep working. If you're not going to work during your extension, they'll give you a little more time (somewhere between 2 weeks to a month max) and all you have to show them is a plane ticket and your passport and ARC.
If you're going to work, it's certainly possible without leaving the country, but it takes a little more paperwork, at least a week's notice, your boss' business license number, and perhaps a stool sample from your mother while she was still using her maiden name. Double check with Immigration on exactly what you'll need. |
