I've been done and home in the US for 2 months and 3 days. I still have yet to receive my pension reimbursement from Korea. Is this strange?

Were you a public school teacher or a hogwan? ALso, did you go with a someone to the Korean pension office to fill out the paperwork?

I went to the pension office in Busan myself. They spoke English very well and were very helpful.

I had worked at a public school one of my four years in Busan. How is that relevant?

It happened to me after my first year in Korea. I had my gf contact the pension office and they said they were waiting for my former employer to confirm that I had left Korea. Apparently, after you file for your pension refund, they contact your last employer to confirm you have left. They wait for a confirmation from them before releasing your refund. I contacted my old employer about it and then 2 weeks later I got my refund.

Call the pension office via skype and your fromer education office. Ask them what's going on.

Zippy left Busan in the middle of December and the pension office told him it would take about two months. It took two and a half months, March 3rd the deposit showed up in his account. Then a week later, on the 10th, another deposit showed up from his first job that he had worked for six months. Each wire transfer cost $20 on this end.

Is it generally quicker if the pension is deposited into a korean bank account rather than one in your home country? Im getting nervous..

I have a friend who worked for EPIK who is still waiting for her pension. I got mine fairly quickly (possibly because I got them to deposit it into my Korean account) but I'm still waiting for my exit allowance. STILL waiting for my exit allowance. 2.5 months after I finished my contract. Ughh.

Yeah, pension to your Korean bank account can take as little as 3 days. Payment to your overseas account can take 6-8 weeks. The reason is that you want to have that last pension payment in your account, so the accounting needs to be done a little bit after your contract is finished.
