Well, I just got back from our "meeting" and the guy didn't show up, as I expected. I will consider that a 425,000 won lesson in common sense. It's an expensive lesson, but it could have been worse (trying to cheer myself up).

I don't think we're going to get our money and I don't think we'll get any satisfaction, but I support going to the police. Here is the bank information for the account I sent the money to:

Bank: Korea Exchange Bank
Account number: 620-190983-429
Account name: 고학연

Is that the same account you sent the money to? I never thought I would fall for a simple scam like this, but I did. It sucks...

i was gonna buy the netbook from him as well and this is what he emailed me today:
Quote:

I've already set a time to meet with the guy, but if you transfer the money immediately, it's all yours. I'm all for who pays first, and there isn't a 100% chance he'll show up. As with 90% of the people in my experience.
my number is 010-5813-1122, you can call me with any questions.
My bank info is

KEB (Korean Exchange Bank)
620-190983-429
고학연

Let me know when it's done, I can check immediately and ship it out within minutes. If I ship it out today before tonight, it'll get to you Monday at the latest.

Call me if you need, I won't be able to check e-mails at the moment, going out to ship the xbox 360!
I'll be back soon, just in case you had urgent questions.

I'm glad he sent you that. I wired him the money yesterday at around 2:00 PM and he acknowledged that he received it. Did you ever try calling the number he gave you? I (and my stupidity grows) didn't even get a phone number from him Embarassed

Name Given: Don Chamberlin (wow fake!)
Email Address: [email protected]
Bank Account: KEB (Korea Exchange Bank)

Phone #: 010-5813-1122

Sounds like he/she got away with over 800,000 won at this point and I agree that there is probably nothing that can be done about this, but I will be at the very least reporting this to the authorities.

Does anyone know if there is any form of "cyber crimes" division here in Korea?

damn Sad i got hit too, I wired him 250,000 this morning. Feel like such an idiot but it's definitely a life lesson learned. I thought I'd take a chance on this even though I had a dodgy feeling about it. Never ignore your gut Sad I suppose it could have been worse but that is definitely an expensive lesson and it sounds like this guy is getting away with over a million. I sincerely hope he doesn't get away with it, everybody that opens an account requires their ID to be taken but since it's a Korean name it's possibly a stolen account? Anyways. PM me your email address and I can forward you whatever information I have and I'd be very curious to know the end result of your police complaint. It's definitely ruined my day and I'm sorry to hear other people were taken advantage of as well.

Check out the following craigslist add:

I did it this way because I don't feel totally comfortable sending out my information over the internet and I haven't reached the 25 post limit...
