I was at the Ilsan Costco today. Some great deals:

-1.36Kg of French Roast coffee beans 12,900 won.
-sour cream about 8,000 won.
-tortillas 8,000 won for a huge stack
-"I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Mega-tub about 10,000 won

The 3 bags of coffee alone would cost well over 100,000 won
anywhere else. If you could even find it.

But somethings aren't such a deal. Beer. Nope E-Mart is better.
Campbell's Soups? Nope, price isn't that great and they only have
cream of mushroom. (wek) There were also a lot of other things
I saw today that I am sure were cheaper in E-Mart or Homeplus.

Sour Cream and Onion chips, 700 g or so, 10,000 won. They taste great but that price is not reasonable.

Beef burgers (frozen), 16 or so, 20,000 won. They aren't that tasty. I won't buy them again.

Agreed on the Campbell's soup.

Great deal: Food court, Chicken Caesar Salad. It's quite large and only 5,000 won.

Definitely......the pricing is very inconsistent in Korean Costco.......some great deals.....some rip-offs.....

You can always spot the K-Costco newbie! They are chucking all that Italian sausage and French cheese into their cart like nobody's business.....because everything's cheap in Costco! Right?

Then they go to the checkout and it's 600,000 won!!! Shocked The looks on their faces.....

Yeah right, I forgot. The food-court food is great. I think Costco should
open a national chain of just pizza and bulgogi bake franchises. Beats
the hell out of Korean "pizza".

You can knock the quality of the food court food if you wish. But not the price.

I am not a fan of their smoothies. They have a strange and not very good taste. But the price is right.

Pizza, it goes without saying. 12,500 won and it will feed 4 people easily.

That would be awesome. I could eat bulgogi bakes everyday.

And the chicken salad is an amazing deal at 5000.....really fresh crunchy lettuce and lots of chicken.

Great thread.

I second the burritos as a good deal, also sweet thai chilli sauce. It's about 6000 won for 2 bottles that are about 600 ml each.

the only other thing that I can think of thats better than anywhere else are the tinned tomatoes but you don't save that much.

Oh yeah the big container of parmesan cheese is a good deal too.

You left out the Tanqueray gin. A fifth for around 20,000 won, if I remember correctly. Haven't been there in a while... probably for the best Smile

Yeah, I saw that right under the Bombay Sapphire. I thought about it to.
Shake up martinis on a Saturday night. But, and this may not be only
me, I get shitfaced off martinis. Add to this I have a five-month-old
daughter so the wife might not be too impressed.

I laugh these days when I see those old movies like "Roman Holiday"
where everyone is splashing back martinis. Those people must have
been seriously corned.

Also the pricing isn't always consistent among Korean Costco's.

I got the sour cream for 6000 won last night in Daejeon.

Meat, nuts, cheese, detergent, coffee, and liquor are all good deals there.

Processed and canned foods seem to be priced about the same as other stores here.

Which Costco sells Italian sausage?

I haven't looked for it for a while.....so I'm not that sure they still stock it. But for a few years Yangae and Sangbong both stocked a pack of about 12 large spicy Italian sausage for about 17,000.......I got it once for a treat. Very tasty indeed.

"Cream of mushroom" ? Where? The only Campbell's soup on the premises (in Ilsan) is Corn Potage. Look for it 2 aisles from checkout.

BTW, did you see the MUCH CHEAPER THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN KOREA Coke, Pepsi, Cherry Coke, Gatorade, Tide, fabric softener, vitamins, cheese, salad, frozen burgers, frozen vegetables, bagged nuts, crackers, lollipops, pickles, olives, A1, and bulgogi pizza? Missed all of that?

Whoa, dude. Relax man. I think that is why I named this subject
"Costco: Great Deals and Rip-Offs" I think we can all agree that Costco
has some great deals, hence the subject title. Maybe if you look hard
enough you can find some cheap Valium.

However, if I ever want to clean up on lollipops, I'll know where to go.
But, I have to agree, the Corn Potage is like eating wallpaper paste.
