Why are you bumping this. haven't you got enough info already?
There will always be mixed reviews. You won't really know until you're here. |
haha, sorry, I'm just a nervous socially awkward guy who needs to be as prepared as possible for moving to South Korea, but I'll quit bumping this unless I have something to ask that hasn't yet been answered |
hehe.. i can probably introduce you to someone else who is also socially awkward. haha.. he lives in Cheonan, though.. |

of course daejeon has everything for everyone, an easy going city with lots of different kinds of people.
But dont be too awkward though.
You can go to bars to meet new people or meet 'em online here on this site or where else.

|
|
Hi all, moving to Daejeon this month. The schools I am teaching at are just east of the Daedong Subway stop (south of Woosong Uni.)
In my past experience that is an old and not very pleasant neighborhood.
We have to look for a place to live ourselves.
Does anyone have any suggestions for good neighborhoods in that area of Daejeon?
tzechuk, you've been there a long time, any thoughts?
Thank you,
Brian
PS edit: Forgot to mention I have a Korean wife and 2yr old so we want a nice neighborhood with some quality children's hagwons nearby.

At least it's close to the subway. If I were you I would probably just try to get an apartment as close to the subway as possible. Apparently there is a GSMart there as well, so it will be quite convenient and you can take the subway if you want to go somewhere. |

Yeah, that area isn't too good, I am afraid..
If you don't mind the commute, I would say just live in Dunsan, which is where I am and is possibly the best..
There are some nice places by the Daejeon IC, you could try there, too..
Having said that, I've been here for close to 10 years and have always lived in the Dunsan/Seo-gu area. I can't imagine moving to other parts of Daejeon, not even close to where my uni is. |

Is it really that bad? Granted, I haven't been here very long (5 months), so I don't have a great opinion...but I live in Jung-gu, Seonhwa-dong, and it seems alright. I can walk to Jungang-ro station and old downtown (eunhaeng-dong) in about 10 minutes.
Granted, I'm young and don't have a family to worry about, so my perception might be different. |

Seonhwa-dong isn't too bad because you are still on the edge of Dunsan - JUST.
Any further East towards Dong-gu and you're talking about poverty. |
