| Duh. We are foreigners in Asia, we stand out. What do you expect? |

Anyone who has travelled throughout Asia knows that Koreans stare more than in many other Asian countries (though I hear parts of China are worse, the only part of that country I've been to is Beijing and didn't notice it there). If Korea is your first and only Asian country experience you might think it "normal" for fortysomething adults to stare with the same dumbstruck expression of children. |

Have to say Indians are worse. I suspect they are thinking how best to try and fleece me.
They love crowding around in groups with their arms over each others shoulders and asking your name and country.
It generally isn't hostile like here. Like yesterday, had a nice hike, and suddenly some 55+ ajosshi starts screaming at me "why why?" luckily I had the headphones on and put the rude old bastard on ignore.
The stares is one thing, but the brazen do what you want to the foreigner is something else. |

Got stared at a lot in Vietnam. Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia, too. Mind you, these stares were usually accompanied by a smile. Got a few stares in Beijing, mostly from domestic tourists, I think. |

Depending on my mood, I smile and nod, ignore it, or (when I'm feeling particularly brazen) say "Wow! Oh my god! Waygookin!"
Usually it's the former, but sometimes I can't resist. |

| I've heard staring in Korea can actually cause foreign men to develop a vagina. Not sure if that's true or not, but it would seem quite likely based on the threads about it here. |

| Surely I'm not a movie star or celebrity. I'd hate to be a celebrity, but would love the money, travel, and private 10 star resorts. I'm surprised no one approaches us to be an extra or an actual actor since it's obvious acting and performing is already a big part of our jobs. One guy who calls himself, "MikeinKorea," on Youtube has an acting career going over here, but started off teaching English years back. If you are going to stare so much due to how facinating I look to you, maybe you could offer me a sweet gig that puts me back on an entertainment visa and finally in your movies? |

| I get stared at like I'm from another planet. I am 6'6" with blond hair and blue eyes. I live in a town of 2,000 people and I am the first Westerner many of them have ever seen in person. I was living in Cheongju for my first month, which has a 600k plus population. There, I was at least approached by young females who stared along with everyone else. Now, in my small town, there are only elderly people or children, no inbetweens. |

I say "Thank you for staring...that will be 10000 won please. No checks." |
