|
|
A friend of mine just told me that there is an Ikea store in Paju. I believe him, he said he had been there several times. I even saw the webpage for online shopping. But when I go to Ikea's world website, they don't list any stores in Korea.
Anyone ever been to the Ikea store in Paju? Can I take a bus there from Ilsan subway stop?
Thanks, |

I was also wondering if there was an Ikea in S.K.
They should have one there, it would do really well plus they have them everywhere else it seems!
If no one answers definitely, could you ask your friend the exact location? |

The Ikea store is not in Paju, it's in the Heyri Art Valley, near Paju. You can take a bus there from Hapjong station. I saw it there but i was busy with a large group of other people so didn't have a chance to go myself.
I am wondering if it is a full, big ikea. It looked rather small....
Heyri art valley is worth checking out in it's own right if you like little handmade artistic boutiques, unusual architecture, or art galleries. |

| Did you know that businesses like Ikea now have their own websites? I know it's a surprise, but if you look there, they don't have a listing for Korea. |

| Ikea would NOT survive in Korea. Koreans buy furniture as a status symbol - the more expensive, the better you look to others. Its the same reason WalMart failed miserably in Korea - people to no like buying cheap products. |

Yeah. More or less true. The Ikea philosophy does not really fit in with Korean perceptions. Middle-class and rich Koreans want their designer stuff to cost a lot. That's how they can show they aren't poor.
The idea of cheap designer goods would be very suspicious to Koreans. |

I've heard it's not a true Ikea. It's more of a mail order store with only a few items on site.
So, if you're dead set on getting some Ikea and you're willing to pay a little extra, I'm sure you can do that.. another option would be to go to taiwan and visit a real store there. |

That makes sense that it is a small mail order store. I mentioned to my friend that I could go look around a few hours there, and he was like "but it's not big", and I was like "not big?" and we were both confused.
They have a nice website, but many things are not in stock.

| There's an IKEA in Busan!!! Went yesterday^^* Anyway, there is one in Seoul, not sure where - my wife just bought a futon and a bookcase for our new apartment and I spent last weekend fumbling around trying to unflatpack them. So, yes there are true IKEA's here. Actually there is every thing here if you look properly. |

| The dealer in Busan is, like the ones in Seoul (and the one in Paju), a reseller. There is no official Ikea store in Korea. |

walmart failed because it was nothing like COSTCO.. also wrong timing and bad location..
the walmart was like emart thats all... if they reopened it now as a REAL walmart! then I think it will hurt costco and be a good business...
but enough with the 95% korean products already!! |

| There's a ton of Ikea stuff on sale at Gmarket from resellers. I bought bookcases and it seemed legit... or a pretty good counterfeit. |

Definitely legit. I have bought Ikea stuff from resellers, too, with fine results. But there's a significant markup and limited stock... |
