I get a lot of screen tearing on the PS3. I have it hooked up via HDMI running at 720p. My XBOX360 never had this much tearing, I hook it up via Component at 720p.
Do you think switching to Component cables could help? |

What exactly is that?
This may or may not be related, but I have noticed when playing my PS3 that if there is something dark, whatever was on the screen before stays there for a few seconds like some ghostly image and then disappears. Usually it only happens on loading screens, so its no problem, but in a game like Heavy Rain with lots of dark areas, it was more than a little annoying. |

Screen tearing is exactly what it sounds like. It looks like the picture on the screen is tearing, like a piece of paper.
OP, try hooking it up to another HDTV see if you have the same problem.
There could be a couple things. The HDMI cable could be bad. The HDMI out on your PS3 could be bad. Your TV could be bad. The best way to diagnose the problem would be to:
a. hook it up to another TV to see if it still happens.
b. use a different HDMI cable and see if it still happens.
c. have someone you know with a PS3 to bring it to your house and hook it up to your TV and see if it happens.
As for Beeyee, your problem is ghosting. |

I play both the PS3 and 360 and I've found it's more specific to the games, than the TV.
I had terrible screen tearing on my 360 with Borderlands on my 40" and on my PS3 with Bayonetta and Assassin's Creed 2. I even bought two extra HDMI cables, one that was 30,000 won to see if it was a cable problem and it honestly didn't change a thing.
One note:
I don't know what type of TV you have, but on my 40" 1080p Samsung Pavv there's something called AnyNet that automatically changes the channel to the PS3 when the PS3 is on. I've found that, sometimes, if I switch the channel back to analog and then back to the HDMI channel, it makes the tearing go away if the game is in progress. I noticed this specifically with Uncharted 2 during the fast action levels. |

Buy a new TV. This time with a faster pixel response rate (if its an LCD). |
