|
|
Are there shops in Seoul that buy and sell second hand game cartridges for Nintendo Gameboy and DS?
Most cities in the States and in Europe have shops that buy and sell them. Are there shops like that here?
I remember quite a few years ago when I was in Busan it was possible to buy bootleg games from China at some stores. They were cheaper than the official ones and sometimes they had 2 or 3 games on a single cartridge. Are there shops that sell those in Seoul still? |

Sure, go to Yongsan and ask for a R4 chip.
Go home and find a rom download site.
Download to your heart's content and then add to said chip.
Play. |

Actually, the firmware for the original R4 hasn't been officially updated in years. Look up something on Google called Wood R4 (it's firmware) and it lets you play many of the newest games (something that the latest official R4 can't do). I got an R4 many years ago, got frustrated at the lack of firmware updates, got Wood R4, and now I'm playing all the latest games. |

you're not gonna have a wide range of choices on different cards from yongsan so take all the "this one is the best" comments with a grain of salt unless you want to order online.
in my case, the thing says 'r4' but is actually DS-TT - i haven't touched my DS in nearly a year but it was reasonably updated and played any ds game worth playing at the time (which i guess was GTA chinatown wars) |

Can you buy knock off replicas of game cartriges in Yongsan?
I know about the R4 cards but I'm thinking of getting some game cartridges for a child. His parents don't like him playing certain genre of games on the computer (particularly violent games). I don't think they'd like for him to be able to put games on the DS that they haven't checked out first. With the computer, it's relatively easy for them to see if he installs something new. It might be hard for them to monitor what game ROMs he copies to an R4 card.
I was also hoping to find some of the games that use rumble packs (or GBA games that have them built in) or the DS slider pack. I remember that there used to be a game for the GBA that had a little gyroscope in it that measured how much you tilted or moved the GBA and used that in game play. It was years ago that I saw it but it was really cool.
I might get an R4 card for myself though. I tried to find one at the game shops back home but no one sold them. Some of the sales people knew about them but no one had actually seen one for sale. |

I am simply confused that this wonderkid knows how to find and install compatible games to an R4 but is incapable of distinguishing between fantasy violence in a video game and real life. :/
But that's ot.... |

How about buying the r4 card for him and loading the games yourself? You don't really have to show him how to do it. Maybe he will not figure it out and just be happy that you gave him a cartridge with 30 games on it.
He could need a microSD card reader. Just don't give that to him. |

Well, with the Wood R4 firmware, that's arguable. Compatibility for the new MapleStory game for the DS was compatible with the Wood R4 firmware before the Cyclo DS firmware. The CycloDS is a nice bit of kit though. The DS-TT is also not bad for the price. Its firmware is also updated regularly. |

That's a good idea. I could just stick on another label so that he doesn't know that it's re-writable.
I didn't realise before that they could hold so many games. 30 games should keep him going for quite a while.
How much do these type cartridges cost? |

Okay, this is what you need to do:
1: Get your pale western ass up to Yongsan Electronics market. Do NOT get an R4 chip. If someone tries to convince you otherwise, punch them in the nose.
2: Get a TT-DS. You can find one for between 40 and 60 thousand won.
3: Hunt around Yongsan and you should be able to find an EZ-Flash rumble pack. This goes into the regular GBA game slot on the standard DS (Not the DSI)
4: Go home and download an application called GBA Exploader and copy it onto the TT-DS. This program will allow you to copy GBA games onto the rumble pack from the internet and play them.
Enjoy |

Yongsan charges I think 35,000 won for the cartridge and a 2gig microsd card preloaded with games but they're all in Korean. i think the charge 45,000 for the same but with a 4 gig microsd filled completely with games. so 30ish or 60ish games, your choice.
you might have to buy a microsd card reader or the micro-mini sd card converter in order to change the games on your computer at home..ask the guys at yongsan about that. |
