Yes, what the hell is wrong with youtube? Glad someone else noticed this. The speed sucks, you can barely watch anything!

I've noticed my Youtube streams are extremely slow during Night-time in the USA. When its daytime in the USA, the youtube streams in Korea usually load pretty fast.

Makes me wonder if Youtube purposely powercycles their servers during non-peak usage hours.

Good call, it seems to be a Youtube issue rather than a KT or internet one.

AsiaESLbound, Senior and mmstyle are talking about downloading in general and I agree with them. If you download content say, from a torrent client, I've had great speeds.
I do agree with you also that YouTube has been super-slow as of late. But once I get off YouTube it'd business as usual.

Right. I've even got to the point of Google Video searching my videos and choosing any streaming site other than youtube. Shame.

That's actually streaming fairly well at very low quality, but at least its not jamming up.

Try this 720p video. It crawls....almost useless

I'm just bearably streaming this in 720p. Would be fine if I let it buffer for 2 mins. Would have finished buffering by the time the clip finished.

All higher quality vids on youtube are real slow for me, but the lower quality load quite quickly at kind of random times. Mostly faster in the daytime.
SK here.

I don't think it's a youtube problem, I've experienced that before. I've noticed that if I used youtube through a vpn (which is like a proxy) it ran at normal speeds. makes me think that its almost an intentional slow down on the korean isp side. for what reason i don't know.

yeh on a site like fdisk im downloading 1.4gb movie in 2 minutes...go to watch youtube and its slower than that bloke in gangnam that drags himself along the floor.

i think some dirty perv in seoul is streaming high quality vids from dodgy pron sites taking up all the international bandgirth

Dailymotion.com, Vimeo.com, and gametrailers.com no problem. Vimeo loaded a 5min HD video in 18secs. with no stuttering.

This IS a youtube issue. I've heard rumor that they're limiting international bandwidth for reasons unknown (to me).

It's too bad. Youtube is by far the most popular and has the most content.

I've been having the same issue in the last month or so. I've noticed it specifically with YouTube and Megavideo.

When I try to download a movie from Megavideo (and I have a paid membership) it downloads at around 30kbs, which is slow. and YouTube takes like 10 times the length of the video to stream. This is true at my house AND at my school now (but only recently at my school).

However, when I use a proxy from the U.S., such as Hot Spot Shield(http://www.hotspotshield.com/), which I'd recommend, it runs at normal speed. Youtube and Megavideo both stream (and download) much faster than watching speed. The only drawback is that something like hot spot shield puts up a lot of ads, so I only use it when I'm using YouTube or Megavideo.

I have KT as my internet service, and I've come to the conclusion that they're putting bandwidth caps on these sites specifically. That may or may not be true, but it seems to be the case.

I also agree that Korea, in general, has some of the fastest internet speeds in the world, and it has nothing to do with distance. check out http://speedtest.net/ to see how amazing your speeds probably are on a normal website that isn't capped!

I've noticed that some of the html5 videos load much faster than the original format videos too.

I just wanted to add my name to the list of people having trouble with this.

I have KT/Qook, and I have no problems with every other video/torrent site I use, but youtube is completely unusable. It takes 15-20 minutes to download a 5 minute video, with the lowest quality settings adjusted and all that jazz.

Neone know who we can bitch at about this?

Im fairly sure it's your ISP and not utube, because at school I can download fine, 30 minutes later at home it's slow
