What do you want to know?
It would also depend on the ages of the kids.

Cebu (as far as the average traveler goes) itself is just a large city.
The resorts are either out in the province or over on Mactan.

The resorts on Mactan are way overpriced for what you get unless you go for one of the 5* places like Shangri-la, Hilton or Plantation bay and they will run you upwards of $200 per day.

For the other resorts, the going rate is around $100 but the facilities and service are the same as what you get elsewhere for $40. If you are on a short stay (3-5 days) then it is quick and easy.

I assumed of course that you were looking for a beach resort.

If you have a little more time (5-7 days) then you can take a 2 hour ferry from Cebu to Bohol you are a world away.

There is the Alona beach strip that is family friendly but there are also other nice beaches and resorts around like over at Anda.
You also have the island tours, shopping, adventure tour, river tour, etc.

If you are coming for more that just a few days (week or more) then pm me and wI can suggest how you can make it a GREAT itinerary for what you normally spend on a week in a resort.

I'll be there for just over a week, but am looking for something very simple. This is our first vacation (not visiting family) with my daughter (3), and I just want to give her opportunity to play in the water and build sand castles. If a resort has various depth swimming pools, that'd be great.

Price isn't the biggest factor, but I am generally not keen on extravagance.

Any particular place fit that bill?

Bohol fits that very well. It comes recommended from me as well. Family friendly and not that pricy.

Alona Tropical on Bohol.

Decent pricing, right on the white sand, pool, grass, easy to get to, decent food and short walk (few hundred meters) to everything else on the beach. I also like the grub at OOPS bar - kid friendly too.

Prices from p1500 - p5000 ; basic room with air to full suite with satellite TV and bar.

There are easy day trips to break the "beach" routine as well as shopping in Tagbilaran (Island mall or BQ for what you would expect in a mall and Marcella mall for real inexpensive (read - what the locals buy) stuff).

If you are flying down from Korea on a direct flight (arriving around midnight) then grab a room at ACE penzionne (they have free airport pickup). Cost you about p1600. Catch an cab down to pier 1 and take the fast boat to Tagbilaran. Takes about 2 hours. There are about 6 trips daily each way on one of the fast boats (more in peak seasons). Catch a cab down to the resort. cost about p300 (they charge 1.5 times the meter rate cause it is out of town and one way.)

IF you haven't booked your flights yet, look at cebu pacific to Tagbilaran via Manila. It is a discount airline so there are no free meals and the service is nothing special. Snacks and bun-wiches are available for about $1-2.

You arrive and transfer in the same terminal (terminal 3) so there is no hassle or rushing and your bags go direct from ICN to TAG. Another advantage is that they are day time flights so you leave Korea in the AM and arrive at your resort in the evening.

Did I miss anything?

http://www.bohol.ph for information about the island, resorts and activities.

If you head up island, stop by Talibon, have an ice tea and drop a few pesos into our local economy

TT.

Here is where we went with our 6-month old.

This is actually my review on the hotel. It was a short and very cheap flight from Cebu. We didn't have to take a boat to get to the hotel.

Have fun. Wish we were there now.

How in the world did you get such a low price? I know Cebu Pacific is cheap but getting a ticket seems impossible, esp. to Cebu.

I bought some tickets for Xmas during a seat sale, but it wasn't $80. With tax, $120 or so.

$80 tickets are a very limited offer for a very limited number of seats on specific days. Don't count on it.
