My home PC is a POS, and besides that, if I have WoW at home I'll play it way too much. So I'm thinking of starting up again, but going to PC rooms to play it. However, I want to be able to play with the US/EN version of course, as well as have my own addons and whatnot going.
I seem to remember hearing that I could just install the full game onto a flash drive (I know it'll have to be a big one) and then boot it off that from any random PC in any random PC room. Anyone know how feasible this actually is?
Cheers. |

It's possible, though it will take a sizeable drive. Also it may run a little slow, at least on load up. |

Most PC rooms will just have it installed already its very popular here. you would just need your addons However Pc rooms will only carry the Korean version. Personally, I severed myself from it about 6 months ago and it's nice to be free |

Yeah, I went once to try and play on a buddies personal server. And it was much more, um... interesting, playing when much of it was in Korean. That's why running it off a flash drive is preferable. That and the addons of course
I was just worried that it might not work straight from a drive if it needed to install things onto the computer (assuming, just to be safe, that the computer didn't have WoW installed in the first place) to be able to run properly. |

The best way would be to disconnect the cable, wrap it around your neck, and run out into traffic.[/blackhumor]
Seriously, you moved to the other side of the world to play an internet video game? |

It's very feasible. I've done exactly that a 16 gig USB will do you just fine. Just plug it in and go.
That said it's really hard to keep up with the Joneses in WoW. Like i was all decked out in the best gear when i left and just the difficulty of coordinating with raid schedules quickly made it impossible for me to really do anything as they were all 13 or 14 hours behind me. |

Maybe you could install it into a Dropbox? You would probably have to upgrade to a premium plan, but that would be cheaper than a 16gb flash drive. |

My 16 gig flashdrive cost me $22 dollars -- yes, it was on sale, but still...I see them for about $32 online right now, and dropbox is $10 a month...so if a flashdrive works, then it actually seems the cheaper route.... |

I ran EVE Online like that for when I needed to set skills, it worked out fine. One problem is that the settings are now stored in the My Documents folder, not the game folder, so every time I'd load it was like the first time, so I'd have to redo my settings. Maybe you can copy that folder to the flash drive too and move it to the My Documents folder on the local PC but I never got around to trying that. |

@vermouth:
Is there anything that I'd need to do to access US servers from Korean PC rooms? My roommate said that he tried it once and wasn't able to access those servers (though I think he's a bit of a noob). |

Oh it totally works and it's great if you're still saving for a PC. You can definitely access the U.S. servers but you need the U.S. edition of the game, that's all. |

you should just do what i do and play at work. not only do u get ur wow fix but with u being at work it should effectively limit ur playing time (cuz u gotta teach classes) |

Thought about it. Might end up doing that a bit too, but overall think that I really should devote my office hours to work type things
Though I could see myself 'staying late' to 'close up the office' some days |
